My oculus quest 2 died so I plugged it in to the charger that came with it, waited 12 hrs and went to play it. There is a solid red light on but my oculus won't turn on. What's wrong

I had this exact problem after charging it for a long time. I think the headset got confused about it's own battery level.

The fix was to disconnect it from the wall socket, then hold down the power button. It boot looped multiple times - showing the oculus logo, then the low battery, then turning off. Eventually, after boot-looping about 10 times, it started boot-looping like it normally would with full charge.

You will know when it's bootlooping "correctly" by looking at the reflection from the lenses. Normally there's a white glow, then it goes off after 3-4 seconds. When it's bootlooping "correctly" it will glow for about 8-9 seconds, then turn off. Alternatively, if you look through the headset itself, the oculus logo will be "pulsing", rather than static. When that happens, you can stop holding the power button, turn it on normally, and it should take you to the dashboard and be at 100% battery.

If this works for you, please comment and let me know, to make sure I didn't get a fluke.

Hey there! We definitely want for you to be able to enjoy your time in VR, and that is hard to do if your headset won't charge! We would recommend trying the following troubleshooting steps to get things working:

  1. Attempt to charge the headset for 2 hours from a known working wall outlet. The headset must be left powered off or in a sleep state during this time.
  2. Try a different Cable/Charger; if possible, test the cable and charger (adapter) separately to determine the faulty component.
    • Make sure that the wall adapter can deliver an adequate amount of power for the device you have, 10W for a Quest 2, and 18W for a Quest 3
  3. Try charging the headset without the facial interface. Some facial interfaces may block the proximity sensor which can impact the power of the headset.
  4. If you are using the Elite Strap with Battery or any third-party accessories that may affect battery charging or consume power (such as external battery packs, external fans, etc.) remove these before charging.
  5. Hard Reboot the headset
    1. Hold down the power button and volume down button for 30 seconds until you hear the boot-up sound
    2. If the boot-up sound is not heard, enter the USB Update Mode and select "Boot Device"
  6. Go through a Factory Reset. Be aware that this will delete all installed apps, game progress, and user data from the device.

Hopefully these steps get your devices working once more! If you find yourself still running into issues, please feel free to reach out to us in a private message! Click on our profile, then "Send a Message."

Hello there, @Allybugs. We see you're having trouble turning on your headset, but don't worry, we're here to help and will have you back up and running in no time. To answer your question, a solid red light indicates that your headset battery is dead. Please try the following to turn on your headset:

  • Try a different outlet
  • Try a different charger or charging cable

More information on the different lights can be found here. Please let us know if this is helps. We are excited to get you back in the game!

Same problem. solid red light. No power. Tried a couple of different chargers and cables that I know to be working (they successfully charge other devices). It's a relatively new Meta Quest 2. Only a few weeks old and <40 hours of use.

We appear to have found several rogue headsets that aren't charging. We're saddened to see that, and we hope to provide you with some information about the issue. Let's start by making sure the headset can turn on. If it seems like the headset is still unable to turn on even after 2 to 5 hours of charging, we can try a factory reset to make sure the headset can processes directives. If that doesn't help change what is going on with the headset, our next step would be to get you to our wonderful support website for some more extensive troubleshooting. You can find us by following this link, here.

Nintendo chargers work ?

Hey there, @benji.exe2. We can understand where you're coming from, knowing your options is never a bad thing! We wouldn't recommend using a Nintendo charger, however. It's recommended to use an official Quest charger, using different chargers could cause the battery to degrade and cause issues. Hopefully this information helps!

Thank you so much the same thing happened before and I didn’t remember how I fixed it.

Same problem here. Solid red light even when not charging. Have you been able to fix your problem?

Thank you very much, I was super confused after charging it over night and it still said it was low battery, but this fix worked perfectly.
