Mostly the Rift S does not work. Changing the displayport helps sometimes. Steam VR somtimes says that there is some compositor not working or that an essentioal VR component is not working.
Since I have a new PC I even reinstalled Windows to solve the problem.
WHen I take on the Headset the oculus app starts with a black screen/no sound. The Settings in the app say, everything is fine.
Not sure if this is the issue, but you should always launch Oculus app (and make sure it is running) before launching steamVR. If steamVR (or any 3rd party app) launches Oculus app afterwards, something may hang. This kind of state can be resolved by restarting computer or by killing certain tasks with task manager, but it is much easier to avoid them from the start.
The Oculus App open automaticly when I turn on the Rift. But the screen remains black.. When I try to open Steam VR instead, it shows that error message. I just posted it, so maybe someone knows the problem 🙂
Nothing worked. BUT(!!) The Beta Drivers fixed the Problem!
