Sound issue even bigger tech 'support' issue

Figured i would post here for a solution and maybe open up a discussion. First the occulus issue. Unless in a game, so all menus and video apps, there is a loud jet fan like hover craft sound that will play out of one speaker at a time and is depending on the direction the user faces. So if whichever ear is facing North it will hear it.

Now this is were things unravel. Nov 4th was when this was reported and i was told to send in the device. I found a link to 'advanced replacements for quest devices. Their response (also the last i heard from them) "we don't offer advanced replacements for Quest 3 devices. However, there's a silver lining - our return merchandise authorization (RMA) comes with a 3-month warranty from the date of shipment. That should provide some peace of mind. "

I then pointed out the '12 month warrenty' my 1 day old device has and how taking 12 months and giving 3months back minus shipping times is obserd. I also pointed out that obviously the vast majority if not fully exclusively of the support tickets are for quest 3, yet they seem determined to back seat them. Ive sent several follow up emails all ignored. Last time i heard from someone was november 4th. If your here you already bought a device like myself. Lets hope yours doesnt fail a year from now like mine did after 1 day

Hey @JJtheoutlaw! We are sad to hear you are having some audio issues with your Quest 3. We are here to help you in any way we can to get you back to having a jet fan free VR experience. So we can get a better understanding of this issue you are hearing with your headset, please answer the following:

  • What troubleshooting steps have you attempted?
  • Which Oculus Home Environment are you using?

In regards to our warranty details, our warranty is good for 1 year from the purchase date. If you have to replace the headset, then the replacement headset will still be under warranty for the remaining time left on the original warranty time frame. The 3-month warranty does not come into effect unless the amount of time left on your original warranty is less than 3 months. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Hello,

If you would like I can update you on the experience, so far. 1) As far as the audio issue it did resolve after a hard reset although the issue came back and then disappeared seemingly on its own. It is not currently having issues though i am not confident that it will remain that way. 2) I bought a game (that is in both the Oculus Store on pc and in the unit) To my shocking discovery apparently if you buy a game on the pc then you need to rebuy it on the unit, but if you buy it on the unit then click free on pc its ok... That seems like an obvious continuity problem that needs to be addressed 3) I was excited (at first) to tell and promote the Oculus to everyone, but then I saw some of its shortcomings and am unsure if i still want to develop on this platform. As far as refferal incentive I think it's right where it should be (though a higher cap would always be nice from a consumer and developer standpoint)  however the current system also has caveats. Say I promote the device and games through video, discord, ect and the user gets the device and starts it. If they have gotten this far they can no longer claim the credit easily.

Hey @JJtheoutlaw, did you make sure to select the option when searching to filter for a specific headset? When you're searching through the desktop application, it's default is sorted by PCVR priority. So there may be some games there that are not compatible with other devices.

You can always check what headsets would be compatible by scrolling down, all supported devices should show right under the pricing of the game. You can also search through the Cross-Buy Apps search, this should show all games that are shared with Standalone and PCVR.

In the time of your life, live - so that in that wondrous time you shall not add to the misery and sorrow of the world, but shall smile to the infinite delight and mystery of it.

P.S., I can beat you at One Piece TCG and Tekken

I appreciate the tips. I will further explain. I saw a game when i was logged on the quest 3. Later that day i was beowsing on the occulus app to see what games i could buy. I decided to buy the one i saw earlier but on the oculus app. This is the strange discontinuity that no customer would expect to encounter. Infact a giant red warning should be on every title that is in the occulus app store that cant be directly downloaded (without repurchasing) on the quest 3.

Now this bred a new issue aswell..sigh.. i was playing steam vr. I finished my session. Tried to play again later after seeing if sidequest was a viable option (which i hit many snags), but to my surprise the tempermental quest 3 no longer recognizes computer (and vice versa). Air link also doesnt work tho id prefer the cable in some of these instances. *ive read the forums on this issue as see it happens without any resolution tho the tact always seems to be blame the usb cable in hopes its not a meta brand. Perhaps ill try yet another reset? Can i get a refund on my game, i guess (so i can repurchase on the device so its actually playable). Additionally it would be fantastic if i got my $30 credit

Hi there, @JJtheoutlaw! You certainly shouldn't have to continue with these PCVR connection issues and other troubles keeping you from enjoying the virtual world to the fullest, so we want to do all we can to help! First and foremost, let's make sure we have a good idea of this issue. Please clarify the following details at your earliest convenience:

  • Is this issue happening within the Oculus software or just Steam VR or another third-party platform?
  • Have any changes been made to the PC or headset?
  • Is your Meta Quest and headset fully updated in Standalone mode?
  • Does your PC meet the needed requirements to support Air Link as listed here?
  • So we don't repeat any, what other troubleshooting steps have you tried?

thanks for replying. As it turns out I just logged off my quest 3. I must explain that my experience with the quest 3 has been the worst experience with a device experiencing failures. That really says something since I've backed dozens of kickstarters and those weren't even companies yet..

The 'good' news the quest 3 is 'moody'. So sometimes it will fix its own issues (for now).

The bad news. Almost anytime you play, you will likely encounter another 'deal breaker' experience. Now my headset which is fully charged, turns off randomly. Most of the time the screen is turning dim and then shuts off. This is brand new problem mostlikely with the facesensor if I had to take a guess. I just deranged in a competitive game because I lost by 1 point on a match where I disconnected 4 times... I wouldn't expect performance like this out of a device that is a devkit let alone like the 6th vr headset meta (a gigantic company) has made.
