Steam VR Games dont work

Chryzzl

Hello everyone,
I have recently bought a Rift S along with sone games for VR on Steam (Beatsaber and No mans sky). Sadly I cant get these games to work..
SteamVR opens up just fine and works perfect. Its only when I open a Game that I bought on Steam that the Tracking stops working. I dont think that any
hardware causes this because I have been able to play both of my games a week ago. I am not sure what is the problem nor how to solve it. The Ports on my PC certainly arent the cause of this as I tried the DisplayPort and USB 3.0 with other devices and they work. I have tried using OpenVR but I'm not sure if I used it correctly. More Information below. Thanks in advance!

Things I have tried:
- Restart PC
- Restart the Oculus software
- Restart Steam
- Using OpenVR
- Using different DisplayPort and USB 3.0 ports
- Clean the Rift's sensors
- Made sure the cables (both on the PC and the Rift) are fully plugged in
- repair and reinstalling Oculus
- reinstalling games and SteamVR

Error messages I gave Recieved from the Oculus Software:
- The DisplayPort cable isnt connected to your Headset
- Your Headset lost Tracking
Error messages I gave Recieved from Steam:
- Error "-204"
- A critical error has ocurred

My PC:
- 16GB Ram
- 500GB SSD
- Ryzen 5 2600 6 core
- GTX 1070

Where do you try to start the game from? Sometimes I find that a game does not start properly from the Steam library, but if I go into the Steam VR environment (whatever it's called), look at the library on the wall and start it from there, it might work.

Are other games working? i.e. non-SteamVR games? At least as a first step in solving it, that might show that it is a steamvr fault rather than your headset.

I tried to start it from the desktop steam app, In VR through steam, through Oculus VR and the Oculus desktop.
games that are from the oculus store work perfectly fine. thats why I think its a software problem.
thanks for the quick response!

Have you set "Unknown Sources" to on in General Settings in the Oculus software?

Are you in the steamVR beta?
Sorry for the simple questions, my not having any issues so comparing like for like.
Also I'll assume you start and minimise the Oculus app before firing up a steamVR game

The Oculus app is basically always running in the background. I am not in the SteamVR beta but I'll try it out.
Edit: SteamVR Beta did not fix the issue

I've solved the Problem but i'm not sure what solved it. After reinstallin and checking SteamVR again and clearing clearing my steam download cache the Problem was gone.
You can clear the steam download cache by going to settings -> downloads and "Clear download cache"
