New to the Quest 3, SteamVR, and VR tech in general so please bear with me.
Based on what I've researched, PCVR through Steam is only really supported via an ethernet-connected PC + AirLink, or if your computer is connected over WiFi, connecting the headset directly to the PC via USB 3.0. Unfortunately, an ethernet connection is not an option for my PC currently, and the Meta app was not recognizing any of my USB cables as 3.0 so I ordered a new 16' cable.
In the meantime, I'd managed to at least get SteamVR working over a wireless internet connection and a wireless headset connection. It works surprisingly well considering all of the support warning; the only thing I noticed is a slight quality drop very occasionally, as I've also experienced using stuff like PS Remote play. I wasn't sure if it was a "hack" or something.
My new USB 3.0 cable came yesterday and I've now managed to get the Meta app and Quest Link recognizing the wired connection, however, whenever I launch SteamVR, it's still connecting over WiFi. I didn't realize this until I noticed the game I was playing drop in quality briefly. I removed the wired headset connection and it didn't affect the game at all, indicating to me that it's always connecting over WiFi no matter what.
I've tried looking for settings in the Meta app, the Quest 3 itself, Steam, and SteamVR for the option to toggle between these connection types but I can't seem to find anything. I've disabled AirLink as well, so I'm curious what I'm missing.
Has anyone else experienced this and/or similar issues? Am I using the wrong app? What exactly are the relationships between the headset, the Meta app, and SteamVR?
Thank you

Hello there, @yee.haw! We understand when launching SteamVR it is defaulting to the wireless connection though you have the cable connected. We would recommend checking the support page on using Steam Link for Meta Quest to ensure all the steps and requirements are met. If it should continue and only change back to Wi-Fi when launching SteamVR, we would recommend reaching out to Steam support for additional troubleshooting that may be done to determine why it is not recognizing the link cable and still attempting to use the Wi-Fi connection.
We appreciate your time, and have a great day
