Steering wheel for Oculus

Hi There

Just got our Oculus, and loving every bit of it!!
Found Dirt Rally, and absolutely love the thought of driving this in the Rift, but with the rift I just cant seem to even consider driving it with the Xbox controller. Doesn't even seem like a choice anymore. I need a steering wheel! 🙂

I just have one question...

Can I buy any steering wheel for PC, and will they all work with Oculus!? Does it matter how old or how new they are?

Thanx in advance

As long as the game supports it, you'll be fine. I use a G29, mostly because it was cheap on Amazon at the time.

Thrustmaster t300 here, love it

Keep in mind that once you go for a wheel, it's a pretty deep rabbits hole to go down. For me I ended up getting the T3PA 3-pedals add-on and the Th8A shifter as well, in addition to a wheel stand (Omega GT). Then you have to consider the fact that these all use USB so if your ports/motherboard are already maxed out, might have to get an additional PCI card with more usb slots (although these wheel devices mostly use usb2).

Yeah, I want to get a USB handbrake, but that will then mean adding another USB card or a hub, as I'm out of ports!

I used to play racing sims a lot, but got away from them several years ago. Now that I have the Rift, I want to give them a try again. I still have the original Logitech Momo ( Red) wheel and pedals which was a great setup. Have moved a few times since then, but think they are stored in a box in the attic now.

Going to have to dig them out and get a good racing sim again to experience it in VR.

So it's not a matter of just getting the PC to recognize the wheel!? Every game has to support that exact wheel as well!? Damn... that sounds awfully complicated and narrows the choices down I guess. And makes it awfully complicated with different games and all...

Not exactly. The game does not have to support a particular make, it just needs to support axis and buttons for setting up a wheel.
Most racing sims do, and about any usb wheel and pedals should work fine.

nothing quite beats strapping yourself into the Rift with a wheelstand, wheel, shifter and pedals and a good session of ETS2.

Get yourself a Thrustmaster T150, it's very reasonably priced and the force feedback is amazing. No gearstick so you'll need to use the flappy paddles on the wheel to change gear and you only have 2 pedals but the wheel has 1080 degrees rotation on it and the force feedback is exceptional.

It's the best budget wheel out there imo.

I bought it on the strength of my Thrustmaster T- Flight X HOTAS being so awesome and I wasn't disappointed.

I had the Logitech Momo (a friend gave it to me when he moved to a new apartment), but I replaced it with a G27 for Euro Truck Sim 2 (the greater turn angle of the G27 was vital).

Oculus software itself has no understanding of any input device besides:
- xbox one controller
- oculus remote
- touch
Everything else is entirely up to the game in question.
