Hello,
Tech Support told me how to reduce the brightness of the Quest 2 display. That helped a lot, it is no longer painfully bright, but it is still brighter than I would like. If would be wonderful if in a future firmware update the ability was added to reduce the brightness more.

absolutely, some people are apparently more sensitive to glare than others, I stopped using them a long time ago. It doesn't make sense how bright they are, even when they are set to minimum and in night mode.

I agree with everything typed here. The brightness is still to bright on the lowest settings after the new update, even when playing a short time.
Quest 1 did also have that problem although it was better from the start and there was a handy app/apk from a guy named "tycotech" that let you inside the main brightness settings as in a smartphone. This apk doesn't work with quest2 for some reason. With those settings enabled it was a joy to use and never ever experiencing eye strain which can if not properly monitored cause permanent eye damage.
So i'd say it's a big a hit and a miss from Facebook/Meta to not include such brightness slider which could really make the screen darker as for each users own comfort level. The current slider is crap and is almost no difference in the minimum or maximum position. In each position it's bright.

I suppose you could try fitting some neutral density filters over the lenses. To see if they work you could get some cheap neutral density film and blue tack it in place.

Thank you for your suggestion however i'm already using adapted lenses on the device meant for the q2. I don't know if that has a neutral density film but i'm going to look into that. It does have a blue light filter included but even then i notice the difference immediately. Maybe i have sensitive eyes but after a test with another device at a friends place. he says he notices it alot too.
It just would be great if they'd implement the brightness slider that is apparent in any Android device anyway and then a user can set it to what they wish. Yes, you might lose some details when lowering the backlight from an LCD but gain battery power and black levels and the user should be able to decide what they want to use anyway.
Cheers,
