The Facebook thing

Hi,

Well its been a long while since I've been on here.

Haven't used by CV1 in absolutely ages due to moving / decorating.  Its been boxed so long and just no time to play with it.  Anyways, I got a message saying I needed to move my Oculus account to a Facebook account or I will literally be hunted down by Facebook and my CV1 and any games I bought would be rendered useless.

So, I've no experience with Facebook really, I remember years ago I created an account just to have a little look in there and see what it was all about.  I suspected this wasnt for me and indeed it wasnt, so I really never used it.

Thing is at that time there was a lot of suspicion of the Facebook and that Mark guy with the creepy hairline and hard to pronounce surname, so I thought Id be clever and not use my real name or real birth date in order to avoid being tracked by him.

In hindsight, I regret that now and should have stuck with the tinfoil hat 😕

However.. it seems since then, Facebook bought Oculus,

I dont want to lose the games,

I dont really care about the CV1 any more

Birthday present later in April coming (Quest 2) and I understand I need a Facebook account for that too.

So thats the background....

Now my actual issue if your still hungry after eating my waffle:

I decided to log into my old test Facebook account I never used, no friends, no posts... nothing.
It did use my email address and phone number in there.
Since Id be linking my Oculus account later, I thought I should put in my real Name and Birthday details this time.

Logged in, Saw I could change my name to my real name... did that ok.

Saw I could change my birth date to my real one... did that ok.

Account was looking good, almost there I thought.
I went into security/ privacy and set everything to only me (as I really dont want to use the account, I just need one in order to keep my Oculus account I thought.
Then I thought, if this is going to be my new Oculus account, id better make it more secure...

I chose to switch on 2 factor authentication...entered mobile number, says it would send me a SMS... usual thing....

Only... the SMS never arrived. Tried resending a few times... nothing.

Its an old account, I thought Id delete my mobile and re add it... then disaster!

Once I deleted my mobile number... it told me my account has been locked!
I still get a prompt to enter a code from the SMS which never arrives.

Next day, account still locked, I got a prompt to upload ID... so I sent a photo of my driving licence.
Waited 2 more days... nothing.
Same thing, account is locked.
The phone app sometimes kind of logs in, but nothing loads, it just says im not connected to the internet... which I am of course.

Does anyone know what Im supposed to do,  Ive looked at Facebook help, but that takes me round in circles, and the links take me back to to my account has been locked screen.
I find no way to contact Facebook.  Im literally now worrying if I should say not to buy the quest 2 now, as I might not be able to use it.

Realise this isnt Facebook support, but have god memories of you guys and your knowledge, and still recognise some name in the forum... hoping you can offer some advice on what Im supposed to do?

Hey, @Warbloke good to see you again.

Sorry you're having the Facebook account problem that a few others have had... and I hope it gets sorted out. Not sure what to suggest apart from submitting a support ticket, this possibly can only be solved by Facebook support but maybe Oculus can look into it from this end, it's worth asking.

I'll tag @MetaQuestSupport here too, in case they can help an old friend of the forum.

thanks, ill try making a support ticket.  i tried logging into Facebook again to see my locked status, it again offered to help get me back in, so I again entered my email address and again sent my Drivers licence photo.

I did that a few days ago so not sure why the Deja vu.

I feel like one of those 'old friends' I dont like. You know the ones you dont hear from for so long and then suddenly show up when they need something 😕

So someone from Facebook has been in touch. Sent me an unlock link valid for a few hours which I clicked.
At that time I logged into Facebook ok on my work PC, my phone browser and in the phones Facebook App.

Its definitely progress, but just came home and tried on my PC.... still locked.
I did clear the cache and cookies, but same thing.

I passed onto Facebook I need my account unlocked for any device as long as I enter the correct login details and not just for 2 devices I tried during a short window of time.

Not sure why this all needs to be so compilated.

Yeah sounds messy. I've only ever had one Facebook account that also was never used for Facebooking but it did have my real details so the Oculus/Facebook thing for me has been pretty simple. It's interesting to see how many have gone a different route.

So are you still ok to login on your phone? and does that mean you can now link your Oculus and Facebook accounts ok?

I dont think I want to try yet, i just tried to log into Facebook on my laptop, and it also says its still locked.

Clearly there is still something wrong with the Facebook account.

Ill wait until it works like Id expect before trying to link to something broken

This is still in a mess.

Facebook unlocked the wrong account (not my primary email address and not the only address weve been talking about) but rather some other account I must have made in the past and cant even remember doing.

Fortunately I still have access to this email, and thats the one Ive been able to log in on.

The account I actually wanted unlocked is still locked 😕

The fact that I have 2 accounts, isnt Facebooks fault, and that one got locked isnt Facebooks fault, but the fact that it happened on 12th April and its now 22nd, and still the account is locked is Facebooks fault.

I explained this via email to the Facebook person who was speaking to me, and still await a response.

I feel this may get sorted out though, so the Quest 2 has been ordered and will arrive on 24th.
Hopefully by then I will have a Facebook account I have some confidence is using to setup the Quest.
If I do that does anyone know if that links my Oculus account at the same time?  Just Im still worried I lose my purchased games if this links to a bad Facebook account

If your Oculus account is "unlocked" again, you should be able to use the CV1 and all your purchased games - no idea what happens if you try to merge accounts again. Facebook should be able to sort it out whatever you wish for.
