Hey @indicle. We see you are having some issues with the volume of your mic on your Quest 3. We understand how you must feel trying to communicate with your friends online but constantly having to raise your voice to be heard. Together, we can try to resolve this issue so we can return you to enjoying VR with a normal voice! Below are the steps you can use to adjust your microphone's volume within the Quest 3.

  1. On the headset, press the Oculus button on your right-hand controller.
  2. Select "Settings,"  then head to "Device."
  3. Select "Audio".
  4. From here, you can adjust the microphone settings.

We hope this helps. If you still need help, please feel free to reach back out to us. We'd love to assist!

Hello again, @indicle! Thank you so much for reaching out to us with an update. Let's continue to work together to get to the bottom of this issue!

First, we apologize for the mix-up! We mistakenly provided information for the Meta Quest 2. We double checked, and you are correct; that is not an option in the Quest 3 menu. For the Quest 3, there is not a volume adjuster for the microphone in the headset settings. However, we have some information that may help.

  • Make sure the microphone is clean and not obstructed.
    • On Quest 3 devices, the microphones are built into the front plate and the center camera. There is one on top of the center camera and one on either side, just below the center camera.
  • Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may block the microphone.
    • For example, a third-party facial interface, etc.
  • Test the issue in multiple games or apps.
    • If the issue is happening only in one of these, check the game or app settings to ensure that the application isn't making its own adjustments to the microphone. They may have their own microphone or volume controls.
  • Reset the microphone.
    • Go to Settings > System > Sound, and then toggle the microphone off and on.
  • Reboot the headset.
    1. Hold down the power button and volume-down button for 30 seconds until you hear the boot-up sound.
    2. If the boot-up sound is not heard, enter the USB Update Mode and select "Boot Device."

We hope these steps help! Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns!

a question.. do you know which external USB Micro has been working on the Quest 3 since the update.. I activated it in the experimental ones but when I plug one in, the sound is gone, so to speak, so you don't hear any sounds anymore..

Hey @VR-Matters! We appreciate you reaching out to let us know about the issues being experienced when trying to use a microphone for your Meta Quest 3 Headset and the sounds just disappear when plugged in. Please keep in mind that only the USB-C slot on the device will work with an external microphone, if using the auxiliary port, that is only for sound on the headset and would require headphones being plugged in for this port. With this being an experimental feature of the Quest Headset and there being a wide variety of options for microphones, we would not have a list of supported devices for the Meta Quest 3 Headset.

I use the USB C port... but either the internal microphone is still used or the internal headphones don't work with another one.
So I didn't use the jack connection.

Hey again @VR-Matters! Thank you so much for clarifying which port you would be using for your Meta Quest 3 Headset! With this still being an experimental feature, not all microphones are guaranteed to work, or function in the way you may expect. We appreciate you sharing your feedback on your experience. If you would like to report any issues you are experiencing with the experimental features for the Meta Quest 3 Headset, we would like to recommend submitting that feedback using the features suggested here
