Tilted view

Hi,

I notice that the default view plane within the CV1 is tilted to the left for me, as if there was a sensor reporting gravitational force wrong. The angle seems small, but still noticeable even in the default menu where the horizon line does not match up with the real world horizon.

I looked at some of the logs, but did not find anything indicating an error. Also unplugged the headset, plugged it into different ports on the other GPU, switched USB and reinstalled the software as well as recalibrated it.
Also tried moving the sensor camera around, but that does not seem to impact the horizon line rotation.

Maybe I am going crazy, but I am certain that the tilt was not present after the first setup.
Is there a way to do a full reset of the headset and/or force a firmware update or any other troubleshooting option that I may have missed?

Thanks!

I would appreciate a link to the tool as well. Or a PM.

I bought my Rift two days ago and I've got the tilt as well. After the trouble we have gone through to get this device you would expect better support. Get on it Oculus!!!! We've stood by and supported you as early adopters. We demand better support and a resolution not just an acknowledgement of the issue. I'd encourage everyone who reads this to start a new post regarding the issue until things are resolved!

At least post a download to the calibration tool for everyone.

Sorry, but for whatever reason I was told not to share it with anyone; just start a support ticket and ask for the tool directly.

Unfortunately I am experiencing the same, but did so from the start a few days ago. This seems to be a relatively common problem for some time now, so I am disappointed you still need to individually file a ticket to address this.

I had the same issue and raised a support ticket with Oculus.  They got me to try recalibrating the headset using the normal setup process first, and when that didn't work they sent me a tool that sorted out the tilt issue.

They asked me not to share the tool, so I won't, but the support process was quick and I got it sorted in a couple of days, so if anyone is still suffering from this then just get in touch with them.

They told me it has to be calibrated to your local temperature.

Just to update this with my experience - I too opened a ticket and gave the IMUCalibration tool a try, but it did not solve the tilt for me. Support told me that they sent out a prepaid label to return the unit, but that was 2 weeks ago. Still don't know why they wouldn't just let us adjust the camera orientation manually. The tilt is most prominent when setting up the Rift and comparing the "virtual" sensor camera with the artificial horizon. That would also make the most sense to allow for a recalibration that could get written to the service or directly to the headset similar to what the IMUCalibration tool does.

I am happy to program a small tool myself, but I have not looked at the Oculus SDK at all. I somewhat doubt that they allow the HMD firmware to be modified directly, but if someone has some experience with that, please let me know or give me a pointer.

Just for reference, I live in Germany and I wouldn't consider our temperatures super unusual here. Typically they range anywhere between 15-30 °C indoors, depending on the weather and heating.

The calibration tool did not fix the problem for me although it did perhaps slightly reduce the amount of visible tilt (hard to tell). I followed up on my support ticket and it was suggested I try running the calibration tool a second time. I did that and it still did not eliminate the tilt.

The headset did not initially exhibit the problem, it seemed to start after an Oculus software update, so I don't think it is an issue with the hardware.

My CV1 horizon has tilted to the left ever seen I received it last week. Glad to know it's a software issue, but I'm not going to introduce the Rift to anyone until this is fixed.  When's the fix coming?
