Tilted view

kingschiebi

Hi,

I notice that the default view plane within the CV1 is tilted to the left for me, as if there was a sensor reporting gravitational force wrong. The angle seems small, but still noticeable even in the default menu where the horizon line does not match up with the real world horizon.

I looked at some of the logs, but did not find anything indicating an error. Also unplugged the headset, plugged it into different ports on the other GPU, switched USB and reinstalled the software as well as recalibrated it.
Also tried moving the sensor camera around, but that does not seem to impact the horizon line rotation.

Maybe I am going crazy, but I am certain that the tilt was not present after the first setup.
Is there a way to do a full reset of the headset and/or force a firmware update or any other troubleshooting option that I may have missed?

Thanks!

oculus is asking me to do the manipulation below :

“We would like to
reinstall Oculus Home as this will recalibrate the sensor and the headset.

The next step
would be to uninstall Oculus Home and then reinstall it as that will
recalibrate the sensor and the headset.

·
Uninstall the Oculus Software: Location: OculusSetup (C:\Program
Files\Oculus)

·
Click the Windows Key + R and enter %AppData% then press Enter

Before uninstalling
the software, please be sure to back up your data. Please note, it is very
important to back up your Software folder. Instructions for backing up the
content for your Oculus Rift can be found by clicking here.

Once the Oculus
software has been reinstalled and your computer has been restarted, we want to
test to see if the issue has been resolved.”

I have the same
problem in the Steam home menu …

Any positive result from the suggested manipulation? What I have noticed is that switching to Public Test Channel mode and then back to stable beta mode definitely impacts the horizontal alignment, Oculus Home software update would distort the calibration and the image becomes obviously tilted (all the way to the left in my case) so that I will need to go through full setup to get the image back to slightly tilted condition. Also I believe that immediately prior to the problem  appearing on my second headset the Oculus Home run through an automatic update which doesnt look like a simple coincidence.

One of THESE annoyances where it baffles me since it exists since the Rift exists, with no resolution or even known what's causing it. According my my experience, the "left tilt" is sorta random, and it might have to do when and how Oculus (or the Oculus service) starts. I am doing a lot of experimentation with my Rift here (my 5th....) and I always get the left tilt on occasion and never figured out WHY and WHEN it happens. This is why I am guessing timing/software problem and not hardware. I didn't have permanent tilt in 5 Rifts..but on each of them tilt at *some times* which is normally gone after a reboot.

Experiment with starting Oculus with your Rift laying down flat....and/or your Rift on your head etc. It could also have to do with your sensor position when Oculus initializes. (Just guessing). Some factor when Oculus starts. And IF it tilts...AFAIK only a reboot solves it, not even Oculus restart.

Same problem here, new rift. I haven't noticed it at first, but now it's very obvious. Why can't we simply have a tool (even a hidden text file) to simply put an offset to world tilt ? I'm stunned how Oculus is responding to this issue (and I have read every single post about it) and how they don't seem to care at all.

Look, Oculus staff, it's simple : you can't or don't care to fix an issue that is real and is affecting a large number of your users ? Simply let us put one simple offset value. Just. This. And we'll be "happy" to to the tedious testing and going back and forth between our headset and the value editing.
Seriously, how hard can it be ? You have an awesome and very complicated software figured out and can't do this simple thing ? Come on !

Has anyone tried Rift Core 2.0? Is it still tilting there?
I will create a voting on their uservoice system, maybe we'll get attention there... Will report back.

Had this issue for over a year. Annoys the hell out of me but decided to let ot slide as i highly doubt it will get fixed.

I do find the lack of acknowledging the issue extremely poor customer service on oculus' part
This is my forum signature.
There are many others like it, but this is mine.

I've tried, and it's better in the Core 2.0 (beta) for me.

I've got the rift for christmas, after several month leaving in the box in the wardrobe and not opening it. When I opened and do the setup I've noticed the tilt problem, than I updated to the Beta, Rift Core 2.0 (with AMD Radeon driver update) and it was better, but not perfect. I've done roomscale setup several times (for hours) for better results and it's getting better and better, now less noticable (also leaved the Rift resting on a flat surface for a night).

I think one should update to beta and do the roomscale setup so that the small black crosses on the floor should be parallel / matched to the boundaries of your setup and the table with the monitor should be in the center of the line of your front view (?). Maybe that helps, not really sure...

Tomorrow I'll try to run the IMUTempCalibration...

Got my rift two days ago and it haster been working perfectly, but today the view was tilted down to the letf. Ran the set up again, but it's still tilted. At first I thought my headset was broken, but a quick search on the web told me that this seems to be a common problem. It also appears to be something that could, or at least should be broken. Gonna try to uninstall all software related to oculus and start all over.
