Touch controller spinning/spiraling out from real hand..

Nikorasu

Every once in a while, maybe every 5-10 minutes or so, even when in view of both cameras, I've noticed one of my hands, usually the left hand, but sometimes the right too, will start spinning/vibrating a bit, which gets worse over the next couple seconds, until the virtual hand/controller is violently spiraling around where my real hand is positioned. Then, after another couple seconds, it pops back to normal and stops, till it happens again a little later.

At first I noticed it in Medium, cause I spent a few hours in that, but I just noticed it in Home too, so now I know it happens across everything. 😞

So I did not have this issue at all, both touch controllers were tracking perfectly fine, but i did have issues with guardian constantly jumping around and turning in addition.

Up until now i was running 2 sensors + hmd on inateck pcie 5+2 usb card (powered) with the generic windows 10 Fresco drivers. (constant disconnects on the fresco 3.6.9.0 drivers)

But today, after reading a post on reddit, where some registry hacks could make the official fresco driver work again.

So i installed it, changed the registry and the disconnects had disappeared. BUT, i still had guardian shifting in several situations but i have a hacky fix for it and get to gaming.

After while, suddenly my right touch controller starts drifting.
I remove and reinsert the battery (like suggested by a few) and it goes to working normally again.
But after a while, the HMD starts changing positions every so often. Very annoying, very incoherent and guardian keeps resetting as well.

Anyway, removing (forced driver removal via checkbox) the Fresco Logic drivers and going back to generic for now (still has the best results), but perhaps someone can read something into this specifically being a good way to reproduce the issue.

setup:
win10-64
gtx 1070
inateck 5+2 pcie usb3
latest drivers

From what I can tell, we do actually have a fix for this issue, but it wasn't ready for release yet. I will check with the team so they know people are waiting. Sorry for the delay.

Good to hear, hope it's soon. I've been encountering this issue a lot lately, in multiplayer games.. 😕

I'm having "spiraling hand" syndrome, and re-setting guardian issue as well. I also have my sensors mounted upside down on the wall - about 6 feet apart. When I get home tonight, I'm going to put them right-side-up and see if that makes a difference.

Each issue is unique. If you all are having Guardian drift issues, please make a new thread so we can track that separately. I appreciate the people that have posted logs, but I don't want to get the issues confused. Thanks.

Well seems I'm another victim of this, my new sensor that came with the Touch controllers has started playing up.  Is there an actual fix for this yet?

In devices there is a warning and it says poor tracking quality - wireless sync timed out, but occasionally I get a different error - "Sensor truncated a higher than acceptable number of frames in the last time period, expected <=1 got 8".

The symptoms are what you would expect, poor tracking, my in-game hands (mainly the right as it is facing the right sensor in experimental setup) are warping or rubber banding around, whereas if I face both controllers towards my original sensor they are rock solid and respond perfectly.

Tried different USB sockets, different extension cable, no extension cable, all with the same result.

Hello,

I've been having the drift issues too so thought I'd post.

It happens to me on non Oculus home games such as Sportsnation VR (on Steam) and Cloudlands Minigolf (Steam). It may be, however, that with Oculus games I'm mainly stationary and facing the front, whereas with the Steam games I'm more room scale and wandering all over the place.

It happened when I had 2 sensors and also happens now I have 3. I've tried various different layouts but it ends up being the same.

General behaviour is it will work for a while, perfectly. Sometimes can work well for up to an hour. But then the right hand starts drifting and spiralling around. It gradually gets worse until it's unusable. So then it's battery out and in again, then it's fine but the cycle starts again.

I've attached some logs from a 90 minute session on SportsNationVR on Steam last night, from around 20:10 until around 21:40.

I'd love to be able to try the Oculus home version to see if it behaves the same but they're not handing out keys yet. If you can give me a temporary key or something like that I'd be happy to try it out for 24 hours and see if it does the same thing.

I also recorded gameplay during this session so can upload it to Youtube if that helps, so you can see how it's affected visibly. I had low battery towards the end of the session and had to change them.

Mine was spinning as well. Both my right and left While playing audioshield on steamvr after 15 minutes.
I uploaded my logs.

Edit: I tried replacing the batteries on the controller. They're both still wonky. The right controller especially is just going all over the place.

To those waiting, cybereality said in another thread, just yesterday (Jan 11):
If I remember correct, this specific bug was fixed already, and is in an unreleased patch. Please hang tight for a future update. Thanks.
