Trying to downgrade to play older applications. Help.

When I first bought the rift, I was using oculus runtime 6.0.1. All of my installed applications worked.

Since 7.0 and later, my older applications no longer work. I have spent the past several hours trying to get them to work.

Here's what I did:

Uninstalled runtime+components, restarted.
Installed 6.0.1, restarted pc again.
Tried messing with unplugging monitors,
tried the whole uninstall/reinstall thing over again.

When I run a demo in direct-to-rift mode, it crashes automatically. When I run any of my games from the .exe, the head tracking clearly works, as I see what I should on my pc end, but I get an orange light and nothing on my Oculus Rift.

I should point out the demo scene works perfectly.

Any ideas? My installed programs used to work with 6.0.1, but now they don't.

It's recommended to use the latest Runtime. See the supported 0.7/0.8 games here:
