USB Charging Port Disconnecting

BogieMike
Honored Guest

My quest 3 headset is experiencing a problem with the charging port. Over the last week the port intermittently stops working, both when charging with the stock charging brick and in gameplay using a battery pack. In gameplay the charging chime is heard over and over again until cable is removed. Alternate cable tried with same results. What are my options?

@BogieMike  can you get some close up images of the connector? like these

Can't use any USB devices with Quest 3 - Page 2 - Meta Community Forums - 1256091

Four Rift CV1s, Quest 2, Quest 3.

I hope I can get them that close. My phone doesn't have the best of cameras.

I am unable to get a picture of the USB port that close. The camera won't focus on my nearly 4 year old phone. Am I out of luck?

@BogieMike  or a magnifier, eye loupe or microscope. What you're looking for are tarnished pins and/or bubbled plastic in the connector. those images in the previous post are what you're looking for.

Four Rift CV1s, Quest 2, Quest 3.

I have no magnifier, loupe or a microscope. The headset was purchased new in November 2023. Shining a light in it I can get close enough to see clean pins and no bubbles. I'm assuming though, if I can't get any pics I'm out of luck.

Hi BogieMike,

Thanks for reaching out about this! We understand you're having some charging issues with your Quest 3.

Don't worry! We're here to look into this for you.
Firstly, here are a few troubleshooting questions to answer:

- Are you attempting to use your headset while it is charging?
- Has your headset been in contact with any liquids/sustained any damage?
- What kind of USB cable are you using? USB cables that do not meet USB spec or damaged cables can reduce ability to charge.
- Are you plugged into a wall outlet? Or are you plugged into a laptop/PC?
- Does your headset feel warm to the touch? If it does, please disconnect the charging cable and allow the headset to cool before trying to charge the headset again.

Thanks for your time, BogieMike! We look forward to hearing back from you soon ☺️

No mate, we're just ruling out a common cause of disconnections.

Four Rift CV1s, Quest 2, Quest 3.

Answers to questions:

  • Using headset with battery pack during play since 2/24. Not for charging, just extending play time.
  • No damage or exposure to liquids of any kind
  • Usb charging cable power adapter included with headset used for charging only - plugged into wall outlet
  • Usb cable from battery pack to charging port fully compatible and used since 2/24
  • Not connected to PC

I hope this helps.

Hi BogieMike,

Thanks for those answers! That definitely helps.

Can you confirm if the issue persists while charging your headset without the battery pack?

In the meantime, here are some further troubleshooting steps to try:

- Make sure you have removed any other unsupported third-party accessories that may affect battery charging or consume power (such as external battery packs, external fans, etc.)
- If you have another Quest 3 power adapter (such as from a second headset) please try the other power adapter.
- Are you using a facial interface accessory? If so, please attempt to charge the headset again without the facial interface accessory.
- Are you using the Elite Strap with Battery? If so, please disconnect the Elite Strap with Battery and try charging the headset again.
- Try charging from a different source (another wall outlet), preferably one on a different circuit.

  • If using a splitter, power bar, or extension cord try removing it and plug directly into the wall outlet.

We hope this helps, BogieMike! Looking forward to hearing back from you soon about this ☺️
