Please Meta,
If technically possible, develop (or let a partner develop) a USB dongle to use our Quest touch pro-controllers as a standalone vr controller for other headsets like big screen beyond or as full body motion trackers in Steam.
They are self tracking, and communicate through the wifi network, so I cannot think of a reason why the quest touch pro controllers would not work as a stand a standaloneSteam tracker or VR Controller
I think this would make a lot of people very happy, and would give the quest touch pro-controllers a second life.
Or make them open source, but I do not think this is an option at the moment.
Greetings,
Rob

You wouldn't need a dongle, just regular wifi. (Well, a wifi dongle I guess if you don't have wifi already).
The main issue is the software. While the controllers have their own cameras, how much of the tracking is actually done on the controller vs the headset? Oculus Insight tracking works by building a point cloud of the environment. With Quest Pro controllers, you now need three point clouds to be matched and synchronised (two controllers and the headset) so they know where each other are.
It's possible the controllers are doing very minimal work and offloading everything to the headset to process. (I haven't seen any articles about technical details of it).
I'd guess getting the buttons, triggers, thumbstick and IMU data wouldn't be hard (I could probably do it if I had Pro controllers to experiment with), but getting the full tracking data may require reimplementing most of the tracking system.
It's certainly technically possible, but Meta won't even make their controllers compatible with all of their own headsets, they aren't likely to make them work with competitors' products.

Thnx kojack, for your reply.
I mentioned the dongle because the "HTC vive ultimate trackers" use a dongle too.
Ofcourse these trackers are a lot newer, and and perhaps have a lot of processing on board.
Anyways i do not think that they need a headset for the calculation.
I am not sure i am comparing apple's with apple's here.
Having that said, i use them on a quest2 and i do not think that the quest 2 is doing a lot of calculations for the controllers.
Anyways, without the "help"of meta it is a lot of work to reverse engeneer the workings of the controlles, and write software something the would work with steam.
greetings, Rob
