Unable to connect PC to Quest 3 over Ethernet

Biojekt
Honored Guest

I can connect to my PC wirelessly via WIFI on my Quest 3 but there is lag when playing games like Half Life Alyx. I have a very fast wifi gaming network card on my PC with wifi 6e and a top of the line PC that can easily play games on max settings so I don't think it is a hardware issue. More than likely it may be a setting with my modem however I don't have access to it.

I am trying to get wireless over ethernet on my PC but for some reason the Quest 3 is unable to see my PC when it is connected via ethernet. However if I set my PC to wifi the Quest 3 is able to see it. Any ideas why this is the case?

Thanks for your help.

Hey, we understand you're not able to view your PC while using your Ethernet. Here are a couple of steps that might assist you.

- Restart the device

- Try another application to check if the connection issue is related to the Link PC VR app only

- Try another connection type (ethernet or Wi-Fi)

- Try checking the settings of the Antivirus software for options to whitelist or add the Link PC VR app as a trusted program.

Adding the Link PC VR app to the antivirus software’s whitelist or trusted list should help resolve slow down or issues accessing content without compromising the user’s system integrity.

Please view this public article for additional information on antivirus software.

- Try a different network; one with no restrictions.

Trying another network without a proxy can help resolve any slowdown that occurs when routing internet traffic through another network.

If this doesn't help, here are a few things to look out for:

- Does the system have an antivirus suite that is active?

Antivirus software may interrupt or slow down the Link PC VR software’s ability to access information from the Meta servers.

Does the system run on a strict firewall/proxy network configuration?

Some configurations may prevent the Link PC VR software from being able to communicate with the Meta servers.

@Biojekt  For the best wireless PCVR results using Air Link (or Virtual Desktop) you generally need to ethernet wire your PC to your home router and then use the router's wifi.  This isn't all that complicated and if you google ' how to setup Air Link with a Quest headset ' you should find lots of info, including Youtube vids.

For example, I have my PC ethernet wired to my home PC wifi6 router and use a dedicated 5Ghz wifi channel (manually, not auto set to ch36/80mHz in my case).  I'm only 2-3m away from my router and have very little other 5Ghz traffic.  With this setup I get excellent results with Air Link (and also with Virtual Desktop).  The main thing is to make sure your router has dedicated, separate 2.4 and 5Ghz bands and that you disable 2.4/5 band steering.

Hopefully, this is enough info to get you started.  Otherwise, maybe contact Meta Support for more detailed assistance.

If you cannot do all this you may be better to just use a decent usb3 Link cable and run PCVR with Link.  Good luck mate and cheers.

Impeccable detail as always @TomCgcmfc! Did this solution work for you @Biojekt?

Just tryna keep the Peas on here. 﫛

The main problem is that I do not have access to the modem. I live in an apartment and the network is setup like a commercial enterprise network where everyone in the apartment complex connects to the same wifi. Each apartment is basically given a slice of the wifi. It's really fast wifi6 and I get about 950mb down however tweaking any settings inside of it is not going to be possible.

Unfortunately not. I still can't figure out why I can connect the Quest 3 to my PC if I use wifi on the PC but if I have ethernet connected it can't see my PC. It might be an issue with the modem which I don't have access to because the modem is provided through the apartment.
