Unable to login to Meta Quest desktop app (PC)

I've seen so many posts on this topic but none of them really fix anything. PLEASE read before responding. This has nothing to do with the headset.

I installed the Meta Quest Link app and it gets to the "Continue in Your Browser" page so I can login. It opens the tab to login to my Meta account, I do the login, I click "Continue as MY_NAME" and the app just happily ignores it and continues to say "Continue in Your Browser." Looking in the Edge (I've also tried Chrome) Developer Tools, I can see that it launches the external handler via the callback URL: "oculus://link/frl_login?token=XXXXXXXX". I verified in Windows settings ("choose defaults by link type") that the "oculus" protocol handler is configured for the Meta Quest app. All of that looks good, but yet the app never acknowledges the login.

Windows 11 PC, RTX 4060, 11th gen i7, 32gb RAM

I got it working but it was a manual process. I opened the app from the command line passing the oculus://link directly as a parameter. The issue is definitely an install problem not creating the shell protocol association right. Opening Developer Tools in the web browser makes it easy to get the app link, then use it as shown below. Please pass this on!

Hey there, @pnw123! We definitely want for you to be able to enjoy your time in VR, and that can be hard to do if you aren't able to log into your account! We would recommend going through the following steps to get a completely fresh version of the app and make sure there is no old cached data causing issues:

  1. Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer
  2. Disconnect your computer from the internet
  3. Backup any necessary content. You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
  4. Reboot into Safe Mode. You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
  5. Uninstall the Oculus PC app using the Control Panel. You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
  6. Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder:C:\Program Files
  7. Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
    1. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
    2. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
    3. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
    4. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
    5. C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
  8. Restart your computer in normal mode
  9. Reconnect your computer to the internet
  10. Install the Oculus PC app again using the setup tool from our website here
  11. Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset

Hopefully that gets everything working for you!

I have followed all of those steps. It made no difference at all. Full uninstall, full deletion of appdata folders, restart, all of that. In the end, it seems like it just doesn't want to launch the app when the oculus:// protocol is invoked. To make it 10x more infuriating, it's been working fine for months logged into the same account. This morning, it just decided to ask me to login for no reason. The issue is after I login, the app never recognizes that I've logged in. This is clearly (based on many posts) not an uncommon problem.

Could you possibly make a video tutorial on how to actually execute this? It makes 0 sense to me and I'm literally getting nowhere with this...

Hey @pnw123. Glad you got it working! If you need any assistance in the future, we're always willing to lend a hand. Best of luck to you!

You didn't really help. I am begging you to please pass on what I said to your developers. There is clearly a problem in the installer. It might be the extra "--" in the command line arguments in Registry. I'm not sure, but nothing changed on my system for this to stop working, and other people are struggling with this. I can post more details for people to follow, but it's pretty technical. It would be so much better if you could just fix the installer.

Would you be able to provide me with the other threads you're seeing with this issue? I'd love to bring this up to our engineers.

Thanks for responding. I'll let anyone else who comes across this thread respond. When I search, I find a variety of issues related to the desktop-browser login handshake not working reliably. I hope it can be made more stable.

Hey @pnw123 and @ThyRuinedKing. There's a link here to the developer forum for your reference. If you'd like to post any suggestions that'll be helpful to various users, this will be the best place. Hope this is resourceful. Best of luck!
