Background:
My Quest Pro mostly sits on a charger. I stopped using it for a long time when I noticed some apps would not open and the store would crash frequently and I could not download new software. A few apps that were installed complained about a pending update. This was the hint to check updates more thoroughly. The Quest Pro is stuck on v54 May 2023 update until now, March 2024 , but the Software Update menu kept saying up to date. The device is connected to the internet, some apps like youtube still worked. I mostly ignored these issues and used airlink for pcvr.
Troubleshooting:
I contacted support and they suggested a factory reset that has made everything worse. I've spent about 10 hours in the past day looking for a way to get through the initial setup screen because the headset will no longer pair with any phone, iPhone or Android, on either devices hotspot (2 different carriers), while on any wireless network. Touch controllers also will no longer pair during setup or at any point after. I was able to partially recover the device through MQDH, but now I have a headset that cannot pair with controllers. I have seen similar posts and they are resolved in PMs or people are giving up and buying new devices/rma.
My device is in a worse state since contacting support, I had a functional headset for PCVR, with limited support in the native apps. Controllers were still paired. Now I have a device that has no controllers paired and will not update. Support offered to let me buy a refurbished device to replace it.

I stumbled across this reddit post, very similar, "fixed" the same way.

Factory reset again, controllers still won't pair, quest pro won't pair to meta app on iPhone either. Setup headset again but from macOS with MQDH, basically the same result as on Windows PC.
