Unable to transfer large MP4 files to Meta Quest 2

gary.situ
Explorer

My specs: Windows 10, 256gb Quest 2, USB-A to USB-C cable to my PC, file size ranges from 8GB-20GB

I have over 70GB available in my Quest 2 but I'm unable to transfer large MP4 video files (all of which are >9GB) to it. I have developer mode enabled with USB debugging activated and I can't directly transfer the files over on my PC nor with Sidequest. The transfer reaches 100% but the file does not appear in my Oculus with both methods.

Several people have posted about this issue on Reddit very recently as well, some of them noted that a factory reset did not fix the issue so I have not and will not try that.

The 10gb and 15gb files were for FTP but as a last effort I tried doing it by transfer cable. I was surprised to see it work for both files. I'll still get FTP set up though just in case.

"I did the same thing. I changed the file extension of a 9 GB MPEG file to PNG, and it worked. I was then able to copy the file from my iMac to my Quest 2. However, I couldn't find a way to change the file extension in the Quest itself. How did you manage to do that?"

so actually either it just works again or they fixed it but what ever it may be i can transfer files just fine again. maybe i should add that i use windows 7 😛 but yeah ... the version was 153 i think and running version 170 i think, i dont know whats important there. anyway, job well dont in my case meta! ❤️ good things take a long time  😛

Ok sounds good @rasner101 , I've now got v60 on my Quest 3, Pro and the Oculus PC app (Windows 11).

So I'll try 10 large files via official Quest Link cable and report back.

Edit: Yeah, seems to be ok now. I transferred 10 files ranging from 6.5GB to 13.5GB and all of them copied over. I was using file explorer only, not Sidequest. I was having a few problems getting my Quest 3 to show up in explorer, even though I was getting the ADB prompt each time. But after going into notifications screen on the Quest instead of the Developer screen, when I connected the Quest, it showed up ok. May have been a coincidence.

But anyway, yeah, file transfer over Link cable is working ok with v60.

The transfer of large files appears to work ok now, I dragged 8 files from a pc folder to mq2 movies folder and 6 transferred straight away. The other 2 I tried again and it worked.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to hop on the thread and confirm the few replies here. The latest update of v60 should resolve this issue, but please be sure to inform us if the issue continues after performing the update.

Thanks!

So when did this problem begin to manifest? Around 04/23 or version 50/51? Now it's Dec 23 v.60?

So I guess I can anticipate the MTP Notification problem being fixed v68/69 May 2024.

Can also confirm, transferring files appears to be back to normal!

Now it works fine.

Thank you meta.

I would love to test out this update but now I can no longer link my Quest 2 to my PC for file transfers. There is no longer an option to enable USB dialog in developer mode either.
