Unable to use Oculus software after upgrading to Windows 11

rguidorizzi
Explorer

After upgrading to Windows 11 the Oculus software says it needs an update (screen below), I follow all prompts, and it then dies before fully downloading (saying "check connection")

I have tried many of the ideas in the forums and while I have gotten it to load more, it has yet to get past 1Gof 5G

Hey there @rguidorizzi! We see you're having some issues with getting your PC app updated, which can certainly be troublesome to say the least. Luckily we have a few troubleshooting tips we can share to help get this resolved for you! Try the following and let us know how it goes:

If this doesn't resolve your problem, uninstall and reinstall the PC app using the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer.
  2. Disconnect your computer from the internet.
  3. Backup any necessary content.
  4. You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
  5. Reboot into Safe Mode.
  6. Uninstall Oculus PC app using the Control Panel.
  7. Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder:
  8. C:\Program Files
  9. Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
    1. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
    2. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
    3. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
    4. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
    5. C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
  10. Restart your computer in normal mode.
  11. Reconnect your computer to the internet.
  12. Install Oculus PC app again using the setup tool from our website here.
  13. Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset.

We hope this helps!

Cant get to the repair option, tried the drivers reload, same result.

Removed all Oculus per your instructions - still hangs on install.

Note I have 2 other installations of Rift on other machines, I also tried copying everything from one of the ones that works and still no success.

Thanks for trying those steps out! We may need to take a closer look into your PC specs to see what could be causing this issue. Here's how you can gather your logs to send over to our support team:

  1. Open the Run window (Windows key + R).
  2. Enter and run: C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics\OculusLogGatherer.exe
    1. The above link is the default directory. Bear in mind that if you installed the Oculus PC app to another drive you will need to update the command with the correct file path.
  3. Select the checkbox next to ‘Full logs’.
  4. Select "1 day" from the "Collect last" drop down list.
  5. Wait for the log collection to finish. This can take some time to complete.
  6. The program will automatically generate a zip file containing your logs, which will be saved to your desktop.
  7. Attach the newly created zip file to your support ticket.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Cant do that - your previous step had me remove everything Oculus from the computer and the download fails every time (at a different point) so there is no Oculus directory, just a temp directory (that doesn't have a LogGatherer file) with a partial load of the files for the install.  Now it gets to a couple hundred Meg (varying) each time before stopping.

We appreciate you getting back to us. We know it's never fun having installation issues, we'd love to find a solution to this for you. Head on over to our support site so you can submit a ticket with our team, we'll do our best to get this sorted out!

if you have windows 11 dont even bother doing any of these surposed fixes just take it to a place like cex and get some money back for it as the softwear even tyhe beta dont work with windows 11 .as i found out after surport tried to help and then reading on lots and lots of site about the incompatable software and no new or fix for it .so if your windows 10 stay with it and dont upgrade to 11

Hiya @Darklorduk! As far as I know, Windows 11 is compatible. It's even listed as a compatible OS on the official Meta Quest support page, under Requirements to use Meta Quest Link. What error message or issue are you having after upgrading?

Meta support was no help at all, I finally got it to work but pulling the hard drive, installing it in a machine that had Oculus working, installing Oculus there and launching it, and then putting it back in the computer that could not download the Oculus files.

It has been working for 7 months now with no issues.

@rguidorizzi  Wow! I'm so glad to see you were able to get the desktop app up and running, although that's a pretty intense workaround that you had to do. Thanks so much for sharing this, so that other users having troubles can give this a try as well!
