I'm dealing with a frustrating situation and would really appreciate some insight.
I purchased a used Oculus Quest 2 (consumer version)back in October 2021. At the time, the seller had performed a factory reset, and I was able to create an Oculus account and use the headset normallyfor about two years. There were no issues with setup, no messages about organizations or restrictions – everything worked like a regular Quest 2.
However, after a recent reset (or possibly a firmware update), the headset now displays a message requiring me to connect to an organization. It refuses to proceed with the normal setup and seems to be locked into a business or enterprise mode. I have no access to the organization, and I have no idea what company it could be.
The device’s serial number starts with WMVR, which I understand is consistent with a consumer device, not a business bundle.
So here’s my question:
Why was the headset usable for years if it was somehow linked to a business account?
Has Meta introduced new enforcement mechanisms that now detect and lock devices previously used in organizations?
Is there any way for me to request a release from the organization lockas a legitimate second-hand buyer?
