V59 Removed Notifications keep coming back

v59 -

I go to the Notifications screen, remove several such as "so-and-so updated and is ready", "People to follow", "Try such-and-such because you used so-and-so" etc.

Play some game or run some app.

Power down.

Go do something productive.

Power up the headset, see the blue notification dot. Open notifications and see the notifications I removed previously are showing once again.

If your issue started occurring after an update, and there are few to no reports about it, then you've got a situation where there is a good chance that your headset got a corrupt update. Let me rephrase that. When your headset updated to version 59, there is a chance that your internet or your headset turned off in the middle of the update. This has a tendency to ruin or break certain files when they install. This can happen in games too.

The fix:

Sadly, due to how this is a corrupt file, your best choice is to factory reset your headset. This will wipe your headset, and it will make it so that you have to reinstall all of your games. But in most games, you'll be able to keep your saves due to them being saved in the cloud.

How to factory reset:

It is recommended you keep your headset plugged in so that it doesn't run out of power in the middle of the process.

  1. Turn off your headset completely by holding down your off button.
  2. Put the headset on your head so that you can see into the turned-off screens.
  3. Turn on your headset, but at the same time, hold down the volume down button.
  4. A screen should show up, giving you some options. Use the volume rocker to go up and down. And use the power button to select.
  5. Once you've found the factory reset option, click it with the power button.
  6. Your headset should now be resetting.

Same thing is happening to me, there isn't even a way to delete the messages in the app.  They also removed the swipe to delete option.  I'd like that back and also a way to delete media from the app.  There's media stuck in the app that isn't even on my headset anymore.  Hopefully they work out the bugs.

Stuck media is an old problem. If you had synced some media and turned off syncing and then deleted the file from your headset it is stuck in the cloud forever. Meta will not delete it from the cloud. The only way to get rid of it is to reload the file on your headset, sync the file and then delete it. I had about a dozen files stuck in the cloud but fortunately I had backed them up with Sidequest so I was able to reload them, sync them, then delete them from the headset and cloud. Sync remains permanently off.

Factory reset is a waste of time. Never solved anything the times I've done it. Poster on Reddit with Quest 3 says has the same problem and did a factory reset three times without solving the problem.

Hello there, @NomadsAnIsland! Thank you for bringing up the notification issue. We understand how bothersome it can be to receive repetitive notifications. Your bug reports are highly appreciated as they provide valuable data for us to work towards a solution. To address this problem, could you please try disabling the notifications on your phone app and then signing out and signing back in? If this doesn't resolve the issue, we may need to recommend a factory reset to ensure we explore all possible solutions. We understand your concerns based on other users' feedback, but we want to leave no stone unturned in resolving this for you.
