V68 - System errors (no keyboard appearance, universal menu does not close and other...)

Meta Quest 3 - OS version: SQ3A.220605.009.A1

After a recent update to the V68 system, I have been facing several system navigation problems that make it impossible to use the device. The problems are:

 
Universion menu does not close with "Meta" button:
With a 3D application open (such as Bigscreen Beta, Max Mustard or Meta's "Layout" application), after pressing the "Meta" button to open the universal menu, it is no longer possible to close the menu by pressing the button again. In tests with the "Layout" application, the menu closed, but hand tracking and control were lost, making it necessary to force shutdown by pressing the power button, as in the following situation.
 
Loss of tracking of controls and hands:
On certain screens, when it is necessary to grant access permissions, (such as Quest Games Optimizer's ADB) tracking of controls and hands are lost. It is not even possible to "click" with the volume buttons, making it necessary to force shutdown by holding down the power button.
 
Keyboard does not appear:
At times, the virtual keyboard, whether numeric or text, simply would not open. It happened in the browser and WhastApp applications.
 
Slowness in opening applications:
I noticed a considerable delay when trying to open the applications I usually use. The initial loading of the application, which usually shows the first logo with the three loading points. On this screen it is not possible to open the universal menu.

As you are experiencing a couple of issues following the latest update, we will try and tackle each individually.

 

To troubleshoot any problems you are experiencing with hand tracking could you please ensure the following:

 

  • Ensure your area is well lit, with enough light to see clearly, but no direct sunlight
  • Ensure your area is free of small lights such as Christmas lights, or LED strips
  • Ensure your area is free of reflective surfaces such as mirrors, glass, or polished marble
  • Ensure the tracking cameras are clean
  • Ensure your environment is free of any obstructions between the tracking cameras and the controllers
  • Remove unsupported third-party accessories that may affect tracking or controller detection. For example, controller and headset covers, controller attachments, etc.
  • Remove the battery from the controller for 30 seconds
  • Try replacing the battery with a new one
  • Unpair and pair the controller to the headset

The other issues you are reporting may be linked to your existing tracking problems however, if the controller troubleshooting does not work or it does not fix the other issues you are facing, we would recommend performing a 'Hard Reboot' of the device.

 

To Hard Reboot the device; 

 

  1. Hold down the power button and volume down button for 30 seconds until you hear the boot-up sound
  2. If the boot-up sound is not heard:
    1. Hold the power and volume (-) button down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
    2. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight "Boot Device" and press the power button.
    3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.
