V74 Removed Space Sense on Quest 2 – Why Take Away Our Safety, Meta?

Hey everyone,

I’m beyond frustrated and honestly shocked after updating my Quest 2 to v74 (build 5142180.16550.150). I got a notification saying "Nearby Objects feature is no longer available," and now Space Sense and Playspace Scan are completely gone. No more glowing outlines of furniture, people, or pets in my play area—just bare Guardian boundaries. What the heck, Meta?!

This isn’t just a minor inconvenience—it’s a massive safety issue. I’ve got a dog and a kid at home, and Space Sense was my lifeline to avoid crashing into them during a VR session. Now I’m swinging controllers blind, praying I don’t hit something—or someone—I care about. How can you remove something so critical without even a proper explanation? The settings are stripped down to just "boundary color" and "controller sensitivity"—no object detection, no nothing!

I’ve loved my Quest 2 for years, and I know it’s not "officially" discontinued, so why does this feel like a slap in the face? It’s hard not to think Meta’s trying to force us into buying a Quest 3 by gutting features on the older model. But this isn’t about fancy upgrades—it’s about basic safety! I can’t be the only one furious about this. Has anyone else noticed this after v74? Did you find a workaround?

And Meta team—please, I’m begging for an answer here. Why remove Space Sense? Is this permanent? Are you planning to bring it back in v75, or are we just stuck like this? Give us something—don’t leave us in the dark (or crashing into our coffee tables). This isn’t the experience I signed up for when I bought into Quest.

Looking forward to hearing from the community—and hopefully Meta too!

I'm with you on this! Fortunately, my kids are old enough to know to stay out of the way when I'm playing (for the most part), but it was still reassuring having this feature knowing I could see if someone came inside of the boundary.

Some are suggesting Meta intends to divert this processing power of the unit towards multi-tasking. I strongly hope not! I'm sure they want to try to compete with the likes of Apple, but I have my Meta Quest for gaming and as a fun way to stay active. I don't need to be doing more than one thing at a time!

Besides, just today when I was playing I noticed the game I was playing kept getting stuck in this weird state with the home menus up after I had hit the home button to try to pull those up. I don't know if this has to do with the multi-tasking features, but regardless it seems to me that processing needs to continue to be utilized for the games. Not to browse the Internet at the same time!

Anyway, hopefully there will be a better feature that replaces this. It really was reassuring to be able to see where someone was at.
