VR wifi connection weird

Tizicu
Honored Guest

so first of all my setup:

PC specs:
NVIDIA 4070ti
AMD Ryzen 7 5700x

Wifi router (o2 homespot connected via cable)
wifi card (intel wifi 6 ax200)

My wifi router acts as an accespoint and is in a different network than my wifi card, my wifi card is connected to my wifi

My problem is kinda weird, as soon as i connect my vr headseat with my pc my whole wifi connection dies, i cant visit websites, my discord doesnt open and i cant even make a speedtest, i dont know why that happens.

another problem that i have is that when i open my oculus menu on pc while i'm ingame it sometimes opens it for a brief period of time and then it closes again and for the next aproximatly 2 minutes my controllers doesnt work, tracking is fine (sometimes) but the buttons dont work.

does somebody know how i can fix my problems, i tried everything i can think of but nothing works

Thanks for letting us know!

Could you please try using a different network all together, and then a different computer, with only your headset connected, so that we can determine whether this is a bandwidth issue or a PC issue?

Please let us know how this goes for you, as we are eager to get to the bottom of this!

We look forward to hearing from you!

i cant test it with a different computer because i only have one
and i already tryed another network and it didnt change anything

Thank you for letting us know!

Could you please ensure that you use a dedicated router, and not a Homespot, as well as making sure that your device is the only device connected to the router for the sake of troubleshooting.

Using the Homespot might cause this issue, as it uses mobile data and could have security measures in place depending on what settings you have.

As well as this, could you please confirm if you are using a Link cable, or Airlink?

We look forward to hearing from you!

i'm using airlink, and the thing use for wifi doesnt use hotspot it connects to my main wifi router and acts as an repeater, this repeater then goes into the wan port of my vr router that has a lan connection to my pc and a wifi connection to my vr

Thank you for confirming this!

We would like to ask you a few questions, and then suggest some steps for you, in order to get to the bottom of this.

Could you please answer the following:

  • What repeater are you using?
  • What is the name of the new router you received?

We would also like to advise that you uninstall the Meta Quest Link App, and reinstall it without tweaking any settings.

Below you will find steps for a manual uninstall of  the Meta Quest Link app:

  1. Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer
  2. Disconnect your computer from the internet
  3. Backup any necessary content
  4. Reboot into Safe Mode
  5. Uninstall the Meta Quest Link app using the Control Panel
  6. Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder:
    • C:\Program Files
  7. Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
    • C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
    • Note: The AppData folder is usually hidden. Use these steps to access AppData.
      1. Press Windows key + R to launch the Run dialog window.
      2. Type %AppData% in the Run box and click OK or press Enter
      3. File Explorer will launch to the AppData\Roaming subfolder.
      4. Click AppData in the File Explorer address bar to show all three subfolders in the AppData location.
  8. Restart your computer in normal mode
  9. Reconnect your computer to the internet
  10. Install the Meta Quest Link app again using the setup tool from our website here
  11. Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset

We look forward to hearing back from you!

My repeater is a o2 Homebox Satelite and its connected via lan cable to the wan port of my Router and my pc has also a lan connection to the router and my vr is connected via wifi to the router.

after reinstalling the software it kinda works, its still not the same network speed as it would be when i'm not connected to wifi but at least its managable

Hi again!

We appreciate you for uninstalling and reinstalling the app. We're delighted to hear that the previously-suggested troubleshooting steps did some wonders. For Airlink best practices, we'd recommend you to consider the below:

  • Have the PC connected to Router/Access Point via Ethernet cable and not Wi-Fi
  • Make sure headset is connected to Wi-Fi via 5GHz band (AC or AX). Most importantly, we'd strongly recommend you to not use repeaters and connect directly to the Wi-Fi router as it can have plausible effects on bandwidth.
  • Ensure router is in the same room as the headset or in line-of-sight, and at least 1m (3.3ft) off the ground.
  • Set up a Non-mesh network configuration. the reason behind this, most Mesh Networks are likely to cause issues with Air Link as they modulate the connection for the device between the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands, which will cause Air Link to be unstable at best and more than likely fail to connect.
  • Ensure your VPN is disabled, if applicable. Please note that using a VPN can cause issues for Air Link as it uses your home network to communicate data from your HMD to your PC, and VPNs mask the IP address of affected devices by bouncing the connection around.

Further, we'd recommend you to review this simplified public article on Manage and troubleshoot your Meta Quest Link setup by scouting for 'Troubleshoot your Air Link connection' and considering the information beneath it to rule out if the root cause of the issue relies within the established Air Link connection.

If you're still having issues with your Wi-Fi connectivity in spite of considering the aforementioned steps, please don't hesitate to let us know so that we can assist you further with other possible options available for you.

Keep us in the loop!
