Weird smell from device

alvinos03
Honored Guest

So i was using my meta quest 3s and then i started smelling burnt from it. I didn't wanna take any risks so i turned it off and haven't used it or charged it for 2 weeks now.
Is this something to be worried about or should i just plug and play?

Thanks!

@alvinos03  this is something to be worried about. The connectors overheating can melt the plastic. One user had molten plastic dripping on his cheek. This is a health and safety hazard so get in touch with support.

Do you think it's safe to turn it on again? Wanted to see if the problem still exists before sending it back.

Hi there!

Thank you for contacting us again. We understand that you want to check if the problem still exists, but we would recommend that you do not use the product again.

One more thing, it wasn't smelling like burnt plastic, more like burnt dust, Still as bad?

At Meta Quest, we take health and safety seriously and we would rather that you not try this and if you have not done so already to get in touch with our Support Team for further assistance.

Thank you very much!

@alvinos03  yes, but be careful. Put your finger over the proximity sensor so you don't have to have the headset on your face and you can smell /feel the area around the connector getting warm. Again, PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

good luck.
