What do I need to do to get the Oculus working on my PC?

I have bought a new gaming laptop two months ago, since my desktop started to have some serious trouble playing my games.
While I went looking around for a decent gaming laptop, I also paid attention to whether they were VR capable. Based on this I ended up getting myself a model from the Asus RoG series.
Prior to ordering my Rift I specifically went to the Oculus homepage and ran the diagnostic tool, to ensure that my PC was indeed VR ready.
Well, guess how surprised I was, when I got my Rift today and hooked it up, just to realise that I can't get the thing to show me anything other than a black display. Sound works fine, controllers are good, sensors are up and running, but the Rift won't take the video signal from my HDMI port.
Can anybody help me get this fixed? I don't want to have to send my Rift back because it doesn't work.

Thank you.

Lots of RoG Laptops out there. People are going to ask which one you have, before they offer help.
Have you checked both ends of the HDMI cable for correct fit?

Yeah what laptop did you get?
I'll assume that the laptop uses a mini HDMI, but regardless my 1st bit of finger pointing would be at the cable you're using and/or any converter.

EDIT: I have to ask but you have gone through the setup/install of the Oculus software yes?!  You failed to mention this also.

Besides what other have said, I'd suggest checking this thread to see if anyone there has the same model as you.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

To answer your questions, this is the laptop that I have got:
Asus ROG Strix GL702VM-DB74 17.3" G-SYNC VR Ready Thin and Light Gaming Laptop NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB Intel Core i7-6700HQ 16GB DDR4

There is no other end of the HDMI cable, the Rift only has one connector.
I am also not using any converters, the Rift plugs directly into the only full size HDMI port on my laptop.

I have run the setup with no issues detected until I reach the point where the setup client tells you to continue inside the headset. All sensors are recognised and running fine, the play area has been established and the controllers work fine, the headset is connected and recognised and all ports and parts are claimed to be working. Only, no image.

I have also double checked that all drivers are up to date.

The cable can be unplugged from Rift (pull off the facial foam bracket first). Make sure the connection is complete. You can also see if you laptop has a DisplayPort output and use that with an adapter (get a 4K 60Hz adapter to be safe).

With gaming laptops, it is often a thing to have two video cards, a simple one with barely any processing power(usually intel graphics) for regular desktop applications and a more powerful GPU for gaming. Make sure that HDMI output can be accessed by GTX(some output ports might be limited to only one of the cards) and that it is used by oculus home application instead of the intel graphics. For nvidia cards, you can check both of thos things in the nvidia control panel.

Also, if there are other digital outputs, try plugging oculus into those using appropriate adapter.

LOL, a cable has to have at least 2 ends. 😕
One end plugs into the laptop/PC HDMI connector and the other end plugs into the headset connector.

Not necessarily. The cable could be hard-wired, in which case there is only one end.

Sorry, I thought we were talking about the Rift.
But, either way, the "other end" would be hard wired or pluggable. 😉
