Oculus Link still consumes lots of VRAM and now even delivers worse picture via cable than VD running through WiFi no matter what settings I try in debug tool. VRAM issue has been there for years, and now especially with VD improvement on top this is going out of hand.
Some games without VD are basically not playable on 8GB cards because of VRAM issue - think DCS, I can't even run free flight missions with good resolution without VD. Link takes ~2.5 GB from me, while VD takes ~450 MB. And on top of that this summer VD received an update which even makes the picture better compared to wired link. Looks like better encoding profiles are being used in VD compared to Link, and better sharpening too. It's even more ridiculous now with Quest 3 release - it supports AV1 and SGSR with a highest resolution, but the link doesn't and VD supported it even before Quest 3 was released. Image and overal experience is simply much better with VD nowadays, it's insane that VD+WiFi allows for better image quality than USB C. I guess it would be even better if you included USB C to LAN drivers like it was in v21 (people run the other XR2 headset like that, and it works great), but you accidentally forgot it, right? Maybe at this point you just buy the guy out and include his software in your devices making it also run via USB? Would be a win-win for everyone.
Are you going to do something about this? Because it looks like Oculus Link is abandoned and even release of new Quest 3 was not a reason for an update. Personally, I'm still on Quest 2 but I'm not going to buy Quest 3 until you fix this since you artificially limit it's capabilities in PCVR with outdated software.
I appologise if this post sounds a bit harsh, but this really bothers me, it's a pain to see PCVR abandoned on the most popular headset for PCVR. I still care about Quest and I love its standalone, otherwise I would not write this up..

Do not 'upgrade' for a quest3 for PCVR !
I mean, it IS a huge upgrade, really, but, right now, it can't be charged on USB port !
So i am not able to play more than 2.5 hours !

#1: I agree with original poster. We need better compression options (i.e., AV1), support for 120hz, and huge improvements to take full advantage of the Quest 3... I'm extremely frustrated that I need to go buy a separate wifi 6E router because Virtual Desktop can provide better fidelity and low latency than being directly connected to the PC... That's sad.
mdesc1908, the Quest 3 should at least stay above 80% if you have the right USB C port on your PC. If you're using USB A -> USB C to connect, you definitely won't get power to the headset. However, if your motherboard supports/has ports for USB-C that are capable of charging, that will solve your problem. E.g., I purchased this card a while ago. (https://www.newegg.com/orico-pe20-1c-pci-express-to-usb-card/p/17Z-0003-00026?Item=9SIA1DSBWH7386) it's just a PCI-Express Expansion card for USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20Gbps). I got this years ago so I'm sure you can probably find a comparable one on amazon or newegg for cheaper. FYI, I got ~1.1 Gbps on my official Quest Link Cable. I bought an aftermarket one and got 1.2 Gbps. So I'm going to stick with that one for now but don't understand why we can't do better than 1.2 Gbps... The cable should support 5Gbps. Anyways, good luck.

Thanks Blade,
But i use the same 3.2 usbA to usb c cable that i use with quest2, it provides 2.3 gbps in oculus PCVR test, and was able to let me play all day long in quest 2, but now, i'm only able to play 5h in the same conditions with quest3 before battery fall to 0%

We really need a Quest 3 update for PC application. I don't understand this ... you buy an expensive heaset and expect some functionality from it (120Hz and encoding resolution and so on to be in concordance with the hardware you got) then you start to BEG and BEG in forums for them to make it happen ?! When it supposed to be like this from the release day or maybe at most 2-3 weeks. But noooo you have to beg and post everywhere and try all methods that someone might hear you and decide to implement what you've payed for. This is really fun isnt it ?
