1 whole year and this issue is not fixed. Im a new quest 3 owner and i play a lot of pc games and this message drives me nuts!

Like you enabled this at v61-2 so why not just disable it. The community shouldnt have to unplug and plug there datalink cable in when getting this message.

Can support please reply with a status on this issue which you seem to just flat out ignore.

Add a +1 if your still having this issue in 2025.

I have been talking with them for a week. The root cause of this issue is with how the device charges. Once the Q3 (any smart phones, basically anything new) gets to 70-80% charged, it lowers the current to better charge the battery and reduce heat. For some reason, Meta is using this current drop as a signal for when a "short" is occurring (I would imagine to protect against the risk of thermal events or overheating to the port) it disables the port and throws the popup.

The first issue is that its detecting something that IS NOT there. This is a "better safe than sorry" solution and they value preventing a lawsuit over customer experience.

The second issue is that the popup blocks out the ENTIRE SCREEN and its not just a small popup that goes away after 5 seconds, you have to manually acknowledge it (again, covering their butts). It says the USB is disabled, but my Link still works just fine, so its not the entire cable, just the power. If I didn't have to drive blind when Simracing when this popup appeared, I wouldn't even care. I can ignore a small popup, but not a black screen.

I have been working with support and blindly following their directions, and even purchased the Official Link cable for 100 dollars just so they couldnt say that was the issue. It works for Link, yes, but it doesnt provide a charge due to my PC USB being 3.3V limiter so now playtime is 2.5 hours, assuming I have a full charge, rather than infinite on whatever charge I want.

My next solution is to get a USB C pci-e card that has PD capabilites (up to 12V, 2 port at 2.4A (30W) and 2 ports at 3A (45W)). I will be installing later this week to see if that fixes the issue or causes more issues. I suspect it will cause the debris issue just like my other cable, although I have been following their suggestions, so maybe this will help to find a more permanent solution.

Thanks for taking the time to explain all this I really appreciate it. It’s completely wild that they go to such lengths just to cover themselves, even if it negatively impacts consumers trying to enjoy their headsets for PC gaming.

I’ve tried multiple cables, and now I see what you mean. The cable I’m currently using is one that powers the headset when connected to a computer for extended play sessions. However, every time I get the message, it freaks out my headset and completely ruins the immersion. I have to disconnect the cable each time to get it working again.

I do have a PD charger, so I might give that a try instead of using the official power supply.

I would say try using a PD brick/charger to power the PCVR cable power port. Ive seen people have success, and ordered one to try tomorrow. Ive been using the power cable provided with the headset and I think that has been causing my issues.

From my understanding, the headset looks for voltage/current being consistent, as water or a short in the connector would cause voltage/current leak and eventually damage or fire. By checking this, they cover their butts as I stated above.

With a PD charge >30W, the headset now does the voltage/current handling, rather than the cable or the wall brick, since the brick will always have enough voltage/current to provide the cable with, so the headset manages that all. When the brick manages it and lower its output, the headset isnt expecting that and throws the error.

If you have a PD brick available and get a chance to try it out, please let me know how it goes!

Yo Were you able to test with a PD brick charger?

I was not, I had some league races and couldnt risk it dropping out. Planning on running some longer practice sessions this weekend and will try that with the INIU cord.

I should mention, I reached out to INIU support and they are going to send me a replacement and take mine in for examination, so I need to make sure to get that tested before I ship it back lol.

Also, I have been taking notes on a different thread if you want to check that out:

Not sure if that will help at all, but one person did find a remedy that worked for them, but unsure if it will work for me yet.

Still need help?
