When i play games using steamVR (even in the steamVR hub), after 10/20 seconds a white translucent bar appears  in the middle of the screen, and it get brighter with time. I even tried using that line of command on the cmd that changes something in the registers and it got worse (luckely i was able to cancle that and get back to the initial problem). Does someone knows how to fix this annoying problem?

A white bar on the screen while using SteamVR can be caused by various issues, including encoding problems, graphics driver issues, or SteamVR settings. Troubleshooting steps include verifying VR mode is enabled in both VRChat and SteamVR, checking hardware connections, and ensuring software compatibility. If the issue persists, a clean installation of SteamVR might be necessary.

Here's a breakdown of potential causes and solutions:

1. Encoding Issues (Especially with Oculus Link):
  • Some users report white bars, particularly with Oculus Link, due to issues with the video encoding process.

  • Fixes:
    • Restarting the Oculus service or unplugging and replugging the Link cable can resolve temporary encoding glitches.

    • Adjusting the encoding settings in Oculus, such as the bitrate, may also help.

    • Turning off sliced encoding or adjusting quadviews can be effective in some cases.

2. Graphics Driver Problems:
  • Outdated or Corrupt Drivers:
Ensuring your graphics drivers are up-to-date is crucial for smooth VR performance.
  • Fix:
    • Update your graphics drivers through your graphics card manufacturer's website or Windows Update.
    • Try a clean installation of your graphics drivers if necessary.

3. SteamVR Settings:
  • VR Mode Issues:
Make sure VR mode is enabled in both the game (e.g., VRChat) and SteamVR settings.
  • Headset Configuration:
Verify that your headset is correctly identified and selected as the active device in SteamVR.
  • Fix:
    • Go to SteamVR > Settings and ensure your headset is properly configured.
    • Try resetting SteamVR settings to default.

4. Hardware Connections:
  • Loose Connections:
Ensure all USB and display cables are securely connected to your headset and PC.
  • Fix:
    • Try using different USB ports, preferably USB 3.0 or higher.
    • A powered USB hub might help if you're having issues with USB power.

5. Software Conflicts:
  • Overlays:
Disabling overlays like Discord or GeForce Experience can sometimes resolve issues.
  • Antivirus:
Temporarily disabling antivirus software might also help identify potential conflicts.

6. Clean Installation:
  • If all other troubleshooting steps fail, a clean installation of SteamVR might be necessary.

7. Other Potential Fixes:
  • Check Beta Branch Settings:
    .
Opting out of beta branches for both SteamVR and the game might resolve issues.
  • Reset VRChat Configuration:
    .
Deleting the output_log.txt file in VRChat's configuration directory can reset some settings.
