Why can't I cast my Meta Quest 3 to my Roku Tv?

For some reason when I go to try and cast my Meta Quest 3 headset to my tv, it only picks up 2 other TV's and a computer.

There is no "look for other devices" button so it just won't let me connect to my tv and continues to only give me the other tv and computer casting options. Please tell me there is a way to cast to my Roku TV that I'm not seeing.

Hi there @cyberglitch64

You can cast to Roku TV with your Meta Quest 3.

Why not try these steps:

  1. Go into Settings on your TV
  2. Check your Wifi is the same on all your devices (the TV, your smartphone, your headset)
  3. If using iPhone turn on AirPlay
  4. If using Android turn on screen mirroring
  5. Turn on Screen Mirroring on your phone
  6. Open devices in your Meta Horizon app
  7. Connect your device to the app
  8. Click start cast

This should get you casting your experience for friends and family to see.

We hope this helps and please let us know what the outcome is.

Ok so I'm not trying to mirror it to my phone (but I do have it connected to the Meta Horizon App already)

And both my tv and head set are connected to the same Wi-Fi connection

After all this my Roku tv still doesn't show up on my headset but all my other family members TV's do

Hey @cyberglitch64

To clarify, to cast to a Roku Tv we recommend casting first to a smartphone and from there to your TV.

Chromecast is an option but is not fully supported with Meta Quest and may face issues. We recommend casting to a phone or computer for the best experience.

Here is the link to more information about casting to a screen with Meta Quest

We hope this helps and if you would like further assistance please do let us know!

From what I can see online, Roku TV only supports Miracast. Quest headsets support Chromecast, a competing standard by google.

Miracast is used by systems like Windows to do wireless streaming (my LG TV has Miracast, I can connect my PC to it by wifi).

Chromecast is used by Google's devices, plus things like Nvidia Shield TV (a Roku TV competitor). While my Quest can't cast directly to my TV (because it's Miracast), I can cast from my Quest to my Nvidia Shield which is connected to the TV.

You could probably buy one of the little Chromecast devices that plug into a TV. I bought a few of them just for streaming Quests to TVs for an exhibition.

Although these days Meta recommends not to use Chromecast because it's not fully supported by them (I think they removed it at one point then brought it back).

Most android mobile phones support both Chromecast and Miracast, so that's why Meta recommend casting to their mobile app, then letting the phone do the rest of the casting.
