Why can't I watch VR videos?

I have an Oculus Quest with the Oculus Link cable.  I want to view VR videos on the web but it doesn't work for me.  I click the VR headset icon at the bottom of the video, and it simply maximizes the window and doesn't put me into VR.  Here's what I'm doing:

1. Connect Oculus Link & Enter Oculus Link mode
2. Start Virtual Desktop, open chrome, browse to video, click VR button.
3. Video simply maximizes

Also I've tried this:
1. Use the Virtual Desktop app on Oculus Quest (not using Link)
2. Open chrome, browse to video, click VR button.
3. Video simply maximizes.

I've also tried Firefox.  Same result.  What am I doing wrong?

Is there a reason you're not using the Quest's built-in browser (not Virtual Desktop)?

I don't have a Link cable but this would seem to be the most convenient way to view VR vids on the web even if I did have one. Using the browser either initiates VR mode automatically for 180 and 360 videos, preceded with a 'Start' that appears in the centre of the screen, or it triggers the video player which you can then select VR or non-VR mode from the menu at the bottom-right, you may also need to change the stereo mode to match that of the video.

The YouTube VR app for the Quest is another way to watch VR videos. Either way, no need for Link or Virtual Desktop and lets you stay untethered.

Then there's the Skybox app for viewing any kind of VR or non-VR video stored locally or on a NAS that also works great.

I've been using SkyboxVR for streaming videos that I've downloaded, but I'd like the ability to just stream videos from the Web without having to download them.

Sure, I could use the Quest built-in browser, but shouldn't I be able to view VR videos through Virtual Desktop as well?  How do Oculus Rift users watch VR videos on the web?  They don't have a Quest browser.  And when I'm plugged in with Oculus Link, my headset is like a Rift at that point.  How can go to any web page with a VR video and watch it through the Link?  Youtube VR app is limited to YouTube videos only.

Well, like i say, i was just curious why you're not using what i think is the simplest and most reliable method (given the beta status of Link) of viewing VR videos on the Quest. Your first post said you wanted to watch VR vids from the web but it didnt work, implying you couldnt. So i thought it would be a good idea to suggest the easy way to do it, or at least find out why you werent able to... or in your case didnt want to.

I use a Rift as well as Qust, but i dont use it for movie or vid watching cos the Quest just has the advantage of being untethered so i can sit back somewhere more confy away from the PC.

I'm guessing the answer to my question is that you have Link active all or most of the time and you dont want to disable Rift mode or unplug from the PC so the next time I'm home, I'll check video play with my Rift using various browsers.

Welcome to my world. The Oculus guys seem to be way too lazy to port the Oculus browser to the desktop market. Instead we must download vids like cavemen...
