Why does my Oculus Rift keep saying "Your HDMI cable is not plugged in"?

I just recently got the Oculus Rift with a bundle along with a alienware pc and touch controllers.  Its been working fine lately but now every game I play, the screen on the oculus turns off and has a blank screen but on my monitor (TV screen)  it shows every thing I am looking at. it is very frustrating and I really want my $1480 to be of worth when buying this.  I have updated my drivers on Geforce, I had done the oculus setup twice, and rearranged the cables. I cannot play a game for more than 10 min without it messing up. Please give me some feedback and tips to resolve this problem.

We had similar issues on another forum. Long shot but try rolling back the gpu driver.
A PC with lots of gadgets inside and a thing to see in 3D that you put on your head.

Roll back to a stable driver and completely uninstall antivirus then try it

I just fixed mine, it was cutting out constantly.  I read through all the posts on this forum related to this because it was an issue that was plaguing alot of people when I bought mine.  It acted up at first, then just seemed to work fine for a while with the occassional hick up.  Then it was unusable.  I swapped the sensor and HMD USB ports (they were 3.0 ports).  That fixed it for a while, then it started acting up again.  I went to device manager and turned the power management off on all USB hubs in the list so windows can't turn their power off at all.  This seems to have ceased all reports of HDMI disconnects even though the only changes made were to the USB ports themselves.  I still have a ticket opened with Oculus but they take so long to respond I still haven't heard anything from them other than the "we received your complaint, we're experiencing a heavy workload and we'll get to you as soon as we can" and it's been 2 days.

Anyone buying this going forward should use a credit card with generous chargeback options like American Express.  Support takes too long to even respond to you.

falken76 just tried that and also tried rolling back the gpu drivers and still get the message that the cable is disconnected

This is usually a cable or connection issue. Make sure the HDMI cable to connected snug on the video card and/or try another port (such as using a DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter). Check the headset side of the cable and re-insert it. Also check the headset USB cable. It this isn't working it may say it's an HDMI connection issue since it needs both to work. Try different USB ports (both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0), some ports will work better than others. If none of that helps feel free to submit a support ticket.
