Why does my Xbox controller disconnect every few minutes?

Batteries fully charged. I've restarted the computer multiple times. Used different USB ports. The only way to reconnect is to unplug the wireless dongle and plug it back in. It disconnects every few minutes, and every time it pulls me out of the game. What is happening? How do I fix this? Is anyone else experiencing this?

Same problem here!

More info:

This is definitely a problem with either the included Xbox1 wireless controller or the wireless dongle.

I know this because I switched back to my old Xbox 360 wireless controller and generic "x360" wireless receiver using the same batteries. I have not had a disconnection yet, and I've played through 2 rounds of Eve Valkyrie, FOO, and BodyVR. Everything is perfectly stable.

Same issue here with the controller disconnect warnings! Another crazy thing that happens to me is that certain games (Dreadhalls mainly) are unplayable with an endlessly spinning camera. In other games, like Albino Lullaby, Lucky's Tale or Adventure Time, I have zero controller issues. In yet another, the Foo Show specifically, I have no issues with the camera or controller but the endless input issue re-appears by endlessly spinning the objects in the Firewatch tower when I pick them up to inspect them.

I know in the past I've had to re-center my Saitek X-52's throttle in Wreckfest (Next Car Game) to stop an endlessly-spinning camera problem, but in this case I've disconnected by X-52 and G-27 and nothing seems to help, unless I need to reboot after disconnection, too...

I am using a PS4 controller with DS4Windows to remap it to an Xbox360 controller. Works real good and Oculus Home uses it just fine!

I'm having the same issue as Jose with the Xbox 1 controller - even when I use it wired, it disconnects & crashes any game I'm in. I think it might be related to a Windows 10 update.

When I use my wireless Xbox 360 pad all is fine when testing so far.

I had the "spinning out of control" issue on my first play through of Eve:V.  After restarting the game it worked fine and hasn't happened again.  Their support suggested that other controllers on my system (my driving wheel perhaps?) could also be sending a signal.

I cannot get VR Tennis Online to recognize my xbox one controller AT ALL.  It shows a big yellow "Controller Disconnected" message on the screen.  Yet I can use the controller to exit that game and return to Oculus Home?  And the controller is working great on every other game.

Some findings since my last post:

CONTROLLER DISCONNECTS:
I'm using the officially-recommended 7-port USB 3.0 PCI-E card in my Gigabyte Z170 Gaming 7 / Skylake build, so I've got USB 3.0 ports all over the place to accommodate my steering wheel, HOTAS, controllers and Rift. I had a general concern about USB devices disconnecting before now, as I had previously noticed the lights on my Saitek X-52 turning off and would sometimes hear USB disconnect tones in Windows. Oculus seems to take the possible disconnections very seriously and way more frequently than I'm used to.

In my case, I uninstalled anything that could potentially be screwing with my peripherals - X360CE, vJoy - and I also updated my motherboard's BIOS to the latest version. Things went *better* last night but I'm not convinced it wasn't just luck.

CONTROLLER SPIN:
Problem has been narrowed down to Unity Engine games - Dreadhalls needs gamepad input so uncontrolled input/spin makes it impossible to play. The Foo Show is definitely another Unity Engine title, but the only time that controller input is acknowledged is when inspecting an item which explains that the problem only manifests as uncontrolled item inspection spin. Every other game purchased from Oculus Home using the Unreal engine has been fine.

EVE Valkyrie had uncontrolled spin the first time I tried to play it, and on a second try it fixed itself and has been fine since.

Dreadhalls spins to the right, but will spin to the left if the brake pedal on the G27 is pushed all the way to the floor (no analog control here, it's either all-right or jerks to an all-left spin when the brake bottoms out). With the G27 unplugged and machine rebooted it'll still spin to the right.

I'm experimenting with setting a 'preferred' joystick in the old gamepads windows still built into Windows 10. Strangely, unplugging the HOTAS and wheel and rebooting does not seem to solve it. As such I'm going back to testing installing/uninstalling vJoy.

Fair warning, all the playing around with vJoy, X360CE, and uninstalling/reinstalling XBOX One controller drivers caused my Oculus-supplied wireless XBone controller to essentially stop registering and working in Oculus Home. My prior XBone controller (wired) still works fine.
