Why is Meta eating my resources?

Hi Meta Support,

I’ve noticed that the Meta Quest app on my PC is using up VRAM even when I’m not using my headset. The app keeps running in the background after I close it, and I can’t find a way to fully stop it. There’s no Meta process in the startup tab, and I’ve already disabled the Public Test Channel (PTC), yet the Oculus VR Runtime Service keeps running unless I manually stop it.

This is affecting my system performance, especially my GPU usage and VRAM allocation. I don’t want unnecessary background processes interfering with my PC, and I should have the option to completely stop the service when I’m not using VR.

I’ve tried:

  • Setting Oculus VR Runtime Service to Manual
  • Manually stopping OVRServer_x64.exe
  • Checking for hidden startup processes or scheduled tasks
  • Looking for ways to prevent background usage

Nothing seems to work, and it’s frustrating that this is happening without my control. Can you provide a way to disable Meta Quest from running in the background when not in use? I’d really appreciate a fix for this, or at least an option to turn it off completely.

Thanks,

You can stop oculus runtime  via win task manager, but tbh it isn't going to make all that much difference, just a little less  ram usage.  If you have at least 16Gb ram it shouldn't make any significant difference imho.

i9 13900K water cooled, RTX4090, Z790 MB w/wifi6e, 32Gb 6400 ram, 2x2TB SSD, 1000W PSU, Win 11, QPro, Q3, w/Link and Air Link, Vive Pro1 with 2x2.0 base stations, Etsy lens mod and Index Controllers

Services are designed to run all the time. You can set it to manual but if the Link app runs, it'll start.

How much resource is your OVR service consuming? Mine sits at 0% CPU and 125MB RAM when it's not in use, which is not noticeable.
