Why should I upgrade my DK2?.

I have been using the DK2 and have not been too happy. Some games don't work unless you have certain versions of SDK Runtime and I have to chop and change. Now some games require 3.1 and it is all so confusing for a not too computer savvy person like me. Try to find Runtime 1.3 if you can. I can only find the SDK zip download. So, do I install Runtime 0.8.0.0 then place the 1.3 SDK in the Oculus directory? I was going to order the new Oculus, but on reflection I may just buy the HTC Vive which looks a lot better and I am sure will be less tiresome to install and get working.

And yes, I did try to install the 1.3 software using Oculus's new installer... which incidently is for the new oculus not the DK2 contrary to what I have read. There is one post that say's it's possible but I did not find this to be the case.

@ajayent48 Installing the Oculus Home software is the only way I know of to get the 1.3 runtime on your system.  It will warn you that the DK2 is not supported, yet it does work with Oculus Home and most of the apps on it.  I had my DK2 working with all the Rift apps, so when my Rift arrived all I had to do was run through the config and I could start enjoying the Rift.

This will of course make all of your old 0.8 content unusable, so if you want to still use all of your old demos, it would probably be better to stick with the 0.8 runtime for now.

1.3 works perfectly with the DK2, just skip over some of the hardware setup steps, thats it.

Of course, a lot of the old demos don't work with it, but there is also no hassle getting things that do support 1.3 to run.. they just work.  Its far less of a hassle than previous (especially early) runtimes which where in no way consumer friendly.

You say try to find it if you can...   https://www.oculus.com/en-us/setup/
Then go on to say you tried installing it.. so can't have been that hard to find.. obviously it's geared towards the consumer version which points you in the right direction for it... rather than a developer kit.

The new setup (although I wish I could download it in full) is far easier than anything that came before it, I can't believe you where able to fiddle around with old runtimes, switchers and hassle getting the DK2 to run a lot of old demo's (a major pita IMO) but can't get the 1.3 version to work... Oh well.  Good luck whichever path you choose

DK2 should work on 1.3, though there may be small issues here and there and it's not officially supported. Really you should uninstall all previous Oculus Runtimes and install the 1.3 Oculus app. This makes all the problems of the past go away, as all the games on the Store are guaranteed to work with the current software package (and all games build with the 1.3+ SDKs will continue to be supported for a long while).
