Windows 7 - Poor tracking quality - Oculus stays black - Oculus Rift CV1

Hi,
I have an old FF steering wheel which does not work with Windows 10. So I connected a separate SSD and made a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I installed all updates and the most recent nVidia drivers. I wanted to install the oculus software, but it told me to install two more windows updates. I tried to install them, but they where already installed. So I had to use
/bypassHotfixCheck
to successfully finish the installation.

After that I was able to setup the sensors and the guardian system, but when the setup screen displays "Continue in VR" and I put on the headset I cannot see anything. The headset is black, from time to time a few dotted lines flash. The led inside the headset at the top starts to change colors between white and orange.Later I discovered that the status in the software changes to orange and it says the the device is connected, but the tracking has poor quality. After a few seconds the status changes back to green.
After the installation I discovered that the device status showed that the sensors are connected via USB2 although they are connected to a USB3 controller. I updated the Intel USB 3 driver to a version from 2017. After that the status show USB3 but the problem with the headset still persists.

I reinstalled the oculus software, changed the USB ports.disconnected the headset, connected it to USB and after a few seconds to HDMI. Nothing worked.

On another SSD there is Windows 10 installed and the headset works fine, so it should not be a generall problem with the rig. It seems to be a problem with Windows 7 or the drivers.

The system:

- Gigabyte H97-D3H mainboard
- Intel i7-4790K
- nVidia GTX 970
- 20 GB RAM

Any suggestions how to fix the problem?

I will absolutely blame a company who sells and ships a product to be compatible with a given version of windows and effectively breaks the unit when they renege on that promise. It is an unacceptable practice.

When it comes to Oculus Win7 support, I think Vader is spot on, lol

It's not just headsets such as Rift, Index and Reverb G2 that state Windows 10 as a minimum requirement, we're increasingly seeing 10 as a requirement for VR games.

Half-Life Alyx, The Room for example but will be increasingly the requirement for future VR games like Star Wars: Squadrons.

There's nothing wrong with wanting Windows 7 support and I would ask that replies to the request remain polite... but at the same time I moved to Windows 10 when DX12 was confirmed to be 10 only and it was clear that hardware and games would eventually not support pre 10.

It's not just the likes of Oculus that would have to provide support, it's the graphics card manufacturers who work closely with the VR manufacturers because VR features rely heavily on their driver support, even before you get to games developers or game engine developers.

I find life so much more problem free when I'm not pissing in the wind. And if I do, I try not to complain too much when I get wet.

First of all this is only topic from last week where pepole are pissed off so this is pretty fresh idea what "developers" invented to forcing upgrade of system. Just like in the beginning of the year...

Second - just hear my story for a example why this politics is not good at all. I only play one title, a sim racing game where I play in league and now we are half season. I dedicated all my time to master racing and win some real PC stuff and money. So now ALL I INVESTED TIME AND HARDWARE ARE GONE and I have no time to install all system and data before next race! This sim race is old game and DON'T NEED ANY UPDATE BUT YOU JUST FORCED me and other players to do this.

I just can't find any more polite words to free speak here how this sucks and how you treated us - gamers who just want play old games on old system.

Well it took me about 20 minutes to upgrade from 7 to 10 on an SSD (I didn't clean install until about a year later), the upgrade went super smooth. What time is your next race?

Edit: data is retained during the upgrade but I keep backups anyway in case something breaks or my PC gets stolen.

Actually the free upgrade from Win7 to Win10 should still work, more here:

I have not tested it though.

You haven't said what game, I have all my old games still installed and working, I never delete games.

If they run on Windows 7, they run on Windows 10. Let us know which games and we can probably confirm if we have them installed.

As for wanting an old system, we'll sure it's OK to want an old system but that old system is not supported by Microsoft, it'll have increasing numbers of security flaws which don't just affect you but also the people you interact with via email or IMs (potentially) just like not wanting to be vaccinated irl.

You've also stated your hardware will be gone, but not stated what hardware... what hardware doesn't work on n Windows 10 but does work on 7. State you hardware and we can probably confirm if that's true.

I think it just comes down to not wanting to change and I totally understand that, but the rest of your post didn't add up in my view.

Thank you for the answer but still can you understand that,
there is no optionzero choice for people who just want play old games on old system. This is outrageous!

Yesterday I had pre-qualification so today I can't start...

Last time when almost same sh*t hits the fan (after normal update of Oculus app you can't play anymore because AFTER update app said that win10 is needed) some good soul of community give option, solution: ok just go back to older version but you'll probably dont play new titles and have errors, etc.
But still there was an option.

I don't know who exactly to blame but this company policy, a policy that is geared towards silent forcing us to have all the latest upgrades is not right.
And someone should say: So let's be happy that we don't need the latest versions of hardware...

Or you could just update your OS and software. updates are good they bring new features and fix bugs, you must be mad to want to run and old OS that is not supported anymore maybe you should stop crying on these forms and UPDATE you damn PC
