Worried about buying a Quest 3 HELP!

SsjSora
Adventurer

Really worried about buying a Quest 3. Need some help guys. After my bad experiences with customer support in the past. And returning the Quest 2 and receiving someone else's defective unit from the wearhouse multiple times, etc. I'm EXTREMELY worried about buying the Meta Quest 3 125 or 256 GB model. And receiving the SAME treatment, etc. "Hope I said that right." Sure I do think the features are cool, etc. I'm just worried about buying a Quest, and having over heating problems dead pixels on arrival, having the fans go crazy in the headsets custom built 3D headphone sound, etc. I really want to play Assassins Creed Nexus and watch some TV shows in VR on Virtual Desktop, like Netflix, etc. Maybe develop my own games for fun. As a hobby, etc and maybe my own VR Chat world for friends and family to hang out in, etc. I'm just WORRIED. Especially with the high demanding games causing damage to the headset, etc. Sorry if I'm worrying and OCDing for nothing. I know that some people have actually had bad experiences before, etc. In the past. I just need someones advice. I need some help here. I want to buy the headset. I really do. But I'm afraid of Meta also not holding up their warranty if I buy the warranty, etc. I am hoping Meta will improve the problems with the warranty in the future and actually send people in brand new sealed units from the site them selves if there are issues with the unit when you bought them sealed from the store like Walmart, Best Buy, etc or Amazon. I am hoping I could get some help with this. I am having mixed feelings about buying a headset for my self. Sorry guys. My brother has one and its been about a couple months now and is experiencing fan issues with the headsets built in headphones, etc. Fans keep blowing by my cheek when I play it, and the headset its self SHOULD NOT be getting hot no matter what. And blowing out hot air etc. Especially if there are no games running, etc. I'm just feeling self conscious about buying a unit from Meta. If anyone could offer me advice. I would appreciate it. I can't afford a Vive or a Index. So was hoping someone could help me out. Even if I did ran into problems. And have to send the headset in for a replacement, etc. I'm afraid of not getting it back or worse. Getting someone else's unit that's already damaged, etc. I thought warranties cover damage of the headset, etc? Not sure how this works. Thanks.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking here. If you are worried about getting a defective headset (the numbers aren't high - nobody trumpets a perfectly working headset on Reddit - but it can happen), buy from a retailer like Amazon with an easy, slick returns process. Do not buy from meta directly.

Look after it, don't go near the sun and remember to be mechanically sympathetic when attaching or removing cables or using the controller joysticks (pushing them beyond their mechanical limits does not help) and it will probably give you no trouble.

Games do not damage the headset. Manufacturing defects can damage the headset but I suspect most damage is caused by the people playing the games.

If you do have to return it under warranty; yes, that's probably going to be painful as Metas support and logistics process is pretty terrible. However, as long as you know that going in it shouldn't be too much of a shock.

Probably best to avoid walmart. They don't understand Quest serial numbers and therefore have a habit of refusing to accept returns and will accuse you of being a scammer. (Quests come with a serial on the box, then different serials on the headset and controllers. Walmart says the box and headset should match, which they never have)

Thank you. You're right about support because I've had horrible experiences before. They just don't care. Or show empathy either. I'm considering doing the 4 year warranty if Amazon has it. Because I'm not taking risks, do you know if Amazon offers exchanges for Headsets if it gets defective months later? I really enjoy using virtual desktop too.I don't know how the replacement works. I heard someone on here got a literal replacement from damage. Like a brand new box type deal. Just worried about getting a headset etc over heating out of the box, etc. My brother's headset fans have been acting up from the right ear headset area. Etc. The lenses are safe though brother found hair on it for some weird reason. XD sorry if I'm overthinking guys. 😞 Mom wants a Quest bad too. Mom has her own FB account. If she wants to play Meta Games. Like Flight Simulators, etc. She can make her own profile on my unit right? I also want my bro to use it as well. Thanks. 🙂 Interested in playing Assassins Creed Nexus as well.

I forgot to say I have severe anxiety and VR helps allot and can be very therapeutic too.
