You can't get lenses clear without using wipes from time to time..

I don't think you are able to get lenses clear by just using a cloth. Just look at a pair of glasses for example, I don't know anyone who wear glasses who just uses a the cloth all the time to get their glasses clean. After using a clean cloth and holding my glasses upto the light, I can still see they are smudged. I use Zeiss wipes on my CV1 from time to time now because I don't think using a cloth works forever. Am I correct in thinking this way? I ask because Oculus recommend you just use the cloth and this doesn't appear to keep my lenses clear and smudge free?

No issues for me with a dry cloth - but then I use VR lenses which probably shield the fresnel lenses and keep cack off. Most I've seen on them is a bit of dust or fluff. I also bought a stack of very soft, thick lens cloths from Amazon which I prefer to the now 2 year old one provided with my headset.

@Brixmis - Your are not able to see the left over smearing on the CV1, because you can't see through the CV1 lenses like you can when you hold a  pair of glasses upto the light. This is why so many people on this forum talk about cloudy Oculus CV1 & Oculus GO lenses, it's because I feel they need to be wiped with something like a Zeiss wipe. Like I've already mentioned. I don't know anyone who wears a pair of glasses that just uses a cloth and I know lots of people who wear glasses. Those are the people I asked when I had cloudy Oculus CV1 lens and was looking for a way to get them clear and smudge free.

Edit: I tried some good ones from Amazon and I still had the problem with cloudy lenses. I know cybereality has said he uses wipes..

A microfiber cloth does help, I use them on my glasses and VR headsets. But sometimes, if there is heavy smudging, you will need a cleaning wipe to get them to become clear again. I know officially you're not supposed to use any solution, I make sure the wipes I get are safe for glass, plastic and polycarbonate, and I've never had any issue.

Yeah - that's the point. The official stance is like Cyber said - so I don't use any fluid or moist wipes. If they say don't - I won't. Having said that, I'm out of warranty now, but still - I don't have an issue with my lenses being cloudy - when I do, it's always been caused by my VR lenses, which I can take out and clean with normal wipes.
There must be a reason they say just to use dry. I don't want to be the one who finds out what that reason is, by doing it. 😉

Maybe it's because I keep it well covered when not in use and have a fan on me all the time I use it - I dunno, but it just hasn't been an issue.

PS - maybe the people having the issue don't wipe them often enough? In their case, i would wipe them after every use - but it's too late now for them, I guess. In that case - it's their headset and their risk. I'm sure there was a discussion on which wipes to use etc a month or two back (maybe a bit longer). People were saying what they used - might be worth looking for that discussion.

Here's one - not the one I meant, but...

@Brixmis - I think the reason they tell you not to use wipes, is depending on whats in the wipes they can eat into plastic lenses and actually make them cloudy. I took the chance using Zeiss wipes and it hasn't caused me problems. I think cybereality also uses the Zeiss wipes from time to time. I certainly don't use them all the time, I use one or two a week depending on how often I use my CV1. The rest of the time I use a cloth..

Yes, I've used Zeiss wipes before and they were fine. I don't use them all the time, though, just when needed.

It's worth checking closely that there's nothing solid on the lens before using any wipes. Dust, if it's something like silicate can scratch if it's rubbed across the surface. I use a microfibre cloth cos it'll catch any particles without pushing then against the lens. I've not really needed to use wipes so far but I'd still use the microfibre first if I had to.

Yes - I'm not arguing with you or your point - just urging caution 🙂  Guess I've been lucky.

I use Digital Device Lens Cleaner by a well known film manufacturer.  A couple of drops on a microfibre cloth cleans off the accumulated crud from the lenses.    The liquid is designed to be safe for plastics & glass so contains no solvents.
