battery draining 1% per minute in bigscreen with battery saver enabled, 10% brightness

Hi, could anyone confirm if it's normal for my quest 3 battery to be draining at a rate of 1% per minute when using Bigscreen VR with the below settings:

  • battery saver option enabled
  • brightness is set to 10%
  • volume 50%
  • hand tracking off
  • air link option disabled
  • 120hz option disabled
  • no devices are connected via bluetooth

I've had the device for around 4 weeks, and have been careful to unplug the charging cable as soon as the charging led turns green to avoid battery damage.  I've also only used the supplied charging plug.

My device was manufactured in December.  Could anyone confirm if more recently manufactured headsets have improved battery life compared to the earlier ones?  Perhaps the batteries have been improved on?

Thanks
Michael

Hey there, @3d-illusions.co.uk. Thanks for bringing your battery concerns to our attention regarding your device. We love to hear you have taken the proper steps to conserve your battery as much as possible, so we'd love to look into this further.

So that we're able to, we would like to confirm the following:

  • Is the battery draining at this rate only noticeable within this app or within your other apps as well?
  • Since noticing this difference in your battery, have you been able to update your device as well as the Bigscreen VR app?
  • Are there additional accessories on the headset?
  • Has the device been hard rebooted?
    • This can be achieved by holding the power button down for 30 seconds.

While the battery within our headsets has not changed, we do want to make sure you're able to fully enjoy a complete charge.

I get around 2 hours in the home screen with the same settings, but all applications cause the power to drain at around 1% per minute.

  • my device details are:
    • Manufacture date: December 2023
    • Automatic updates enabled: Yes
    • System version 49829370066100510
    • Version: 62.0.0.273.343.570372087
    • runtime version : 62.0.0.269.341.570372063
    • OS Version : SQ3A.220605.009.A1
  • There are no additional devices connected
  • The device has been hard rebooted

Have there been any manufacturing changes that improve battery performance?  Just so I know if it's worth me trying for an exchange.

Thanks for getting back with us @3d-illusions.co.uk. Rechargeable batteries can become less efficient over time, however the estimated 2 hours of usage is what can be expected from our Quest 3 devices. Additionally, we do recommend using your device until the battery level is below 50% before you start recharging as well as storing in a place that is not in extreme heat or extreme cool. If all other troubleshooting has not been effective with improving your devices battery life, you can also factory reset your device by following these steps:

  1. Turn off your headset.
  2. Hold the power and volume (-) button on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
  3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Factory Reset and press the power button.
  4. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

Notes:

  • Performing a factory reset is irreversible and will remove all account information, downloaded games, and content from the headset.
  • Performing a factory reset won't remove content you've purchased or downloaded from your account. Lastly, please feel free to check out our Meta Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery to get an extra 2 hours of game time with the built in battery pack! Hope this helps 🙂

Hi, I'm afraid non of that helped.  All I really want to know from you is whether my situation is normal, and if it's likely going to the trouble of returning the product will provide better results.

Just to recap (please read carefully), the battery is draining at a rate of 1% per minute when using Bigscreen (and most other apps) with the below settings:

  • battery saver option enabled
  • brightness is set to 10%
  • volume 50%
  • hand tracking off
  • air link option disabled
  • 120hz option disabled
  • no devices are connected via bluetooth

I'd really appreciate if you can speed up your responses.  I've been trying to get an answer from Meta for nearly 3 months now, initially with the meta staff on the forum, and now 3 weeks here.  It's not very good customer service.
