can't use Oculus Go after Meta Account change

Hi,

Meta forced me to update my Oculus account to a Meta account. After I did this, my Oculus didn't start beyond the repeating three dots... I tried everything, but nothing worked.

Finally I decided to factory reset the headset, removed the device in the Oculus mobile app and remove the app from my phone.

After I reinstalled the app, I started the Oculus Go. This time it's asking me open the Oculus mobile App to connect the headset. In the App I can 'see' the headset and select is. The App then tries to connect, but tells me this headset is already connected to my Meta-account. It advices me to restore the factory default on the headset, which I have done already several times... is this where I toss a perfectly good headset in the bin, or is there a way that I can still get this to work again?

So what you are saying is that this is planned obsolescence? Meta are joining Apple in the game of focusing their users to keep renewing their devices?

Luckily, there are other companies in this space which are not playing this game - I'll happily give them my money. And Meta wonder why so many are leaving them? You didn't really give us a choice now did you? I for one will not be gas-lit.

Do we get some kind of money back if we turn in our oculus go? since we got ripped off

@respinosa65  I highly doubt that’s going to happen mate.  I’ve had mine for about 5 years and while it still works ok (but no background environments) it’s a dinosaur compared to my Q2 so I hardly use it anymore.  Electronic devices don’t last forever mate so maybe just get over it and move onto something else imho.

Thank you for your answer. I suppose my next purchase will be a new VR, Pico 4, for example.😉

@jew777  Ya, if a Pico 4 is going to make you happy, go for it mate!  Personally I think you should wait and see how the Quest 3 pans out, but you do you.

Hi Meta team,

I have also tried everything but I can´t connect the Oculus Go to the mobile App anymore. Before Meta Support was everything working well 🙂

I pulled my very old Go last week and it wouldn't startup (3 dots of death).  I did a manual factory reset with power and volume buttons, then did manage to get it to connect to the latest Oculus phone app and went through setup again.  Unfortunately. after all that it still wouldn't start up (3 dots only again).  So, sad to say, after another factory reset to wipe any data, it's off to the electronic recycle bin.  It was a fun little thing when it first came out but it became pretty redundant once I got a Q2.  RIP little Go, lol!

Edit, I already had moved my Go to my Meta account and that worked ok last time I tried it (~6mo ago).  Just not now.  I hear that you can try downloading an older phone app version to make it work again.  Just not worth the effort, for me anyway.

I HATE EVERY OTHER VR OTHER THAN GO!!! The Oculus 2 is a useless piece of crap that caused a massive headache in minutes. The Go was the only app with a decent beach scene and it wasn't too heavy to wear. Mark Zuckerberg literally ruins EVERYTHING he touches.

Hey @evlktn! We hope you're having a great day today! Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We know it's no fun to not be able to use our devices to their full capacity, so we would love to help get this issue resolved for you. Luckily, we have a few tips you can try to avoid headaches while using Quest 2. If you haven't already, try adjusting the fix on the headset before starting a game. It's important to take breaks after long periods of time wearing the headset. We hope this will be of help to you in your future use of the Quest 2 device. Have a legendary rest of your day!

I gave the device away after having it for a year and only being able to wear it for several minutes at a time. I spent a fortune on games and apps attempting to find one that was bearable. The instant severe headaches and nausea were not worth it. But I just saw some Oculus Go's for sale and thought, yeah, now I can have a VR device that is usable again. I bought one only to find out today you guys dumped them several years ago and screwed up everyone's account. In order to at least be good stewards after the choice to dump the many, many people who have purchased a GO you should get Zuckerberg to talk with Bezos so Amazon stops allowing the sale of new units without letting purchasers know that it is useless and you're handing over more than $300 for nothing.
