consistent disconnects and reconnects with link cable ( quest pro & quest 2)

Like the title says, I am  getting consistent disconnects and reconnects. been coming back to this site for the same **bleep** reason each time but noth9ing is working. I've done everything from uninstalling and reinstalling drivers to fully reinstalling windows but nothing. i know my cable is good and i know the usb and all my other 3.0 ports are good as well  as I use them for my external SSD's when I'm not in vr

this has been a on going issue for the past 2 years and now I'm at the point of just selling both my quest pro and quest 2 as i got the quest pro thinking it was a issue with the quest 2.

also my pc is vr ready as i am running a MSI 3060 12GB paired with a I5 10400F with 16 GB of ram.

I know I'm ranting at this point but i am at a lost of what to do. meta support was not helpful when i initially summited my diagnostics to them last year when I first reached out for support. only thing they suggested to do was get a new cable from them which I know wasn't the issue. I am fairly certain its the software it self that's the issue as not even repairing/ uninstalling and reinstalling wont fix it

also know some people will probably go through my profile to see if i have found any "fixes" to which i did but that legit only lasted a single week so i don't know that to do at this point. any advice or recommendations would be really appreciated.

Hey there, @killerboy3699! We understand that you've been experiencing recurring issues with your Quest Pro and Quest 2 connections to your computer with Quest Link. Let's work together to get to the bottom of this! We have some questions for you to get a closer look at the situation.

  • Between the last time that your devices were stable and now, were there any changes made to the devices?
  • For example, updates, new programs, etc.
  • Do you experience the same issue with Air Link, or is the issue isolated to Quest Link?
  • How many other USB devices do you have connected to your PC?
  • Are you using a VPN?
  • Are you using any antivirus programs?
  • Are you seeing any error messages when the disconnect happens?

We look forward to hearing back from you!

nothing has changed other than updating my headset to V56

im not running any ne programs other than what is needed (meta quest link, steam vr, ovr toolkit, ovr advanced settings, play space calibrator for FBT, Discord and Opera GX)

i can not physically use air link due to my pc not being on a wired connection to my router due to how far it is away. and i only have my mouse & key board, headset and my three tracker dongles plugged into my pc( headset is going through a 3.1 usb port)

I am not using a VPN nor any ani virus stuff

and lastly the only error message i get is the software saying i cant detect my headset once my headset has already disconnected and reconnected.
again, this has been going on for well over 2 years now, its stupid.

Thank you very much for letting us know, @killerboy3699! To clarify a bit more, has Quest Link ever properly worked with this PC in the past? Also, could you please double-check that the full specifications are met to support Quest Link, as listed here? Lastly. if you haven't already, please try out these steps to repair your Meta Link desktop app in order to give those files as refresh on your PC:

  1. Download and run the Oculus Installation Software (meta.com/quest/setup/)
  2. You will see a screen which says "Already Installed".
  3. Click the "Repair" option, and confirm again on the next screen.

yes it has worked in the past and works when it wants to. I could have a day or a week of where it will just be completely fine but then I could have months of nonstop issues.

as for my pc, it meets the requirements.

I've got a I5 10400F with a MSI 3060 12GB and 16 GB RAM

and lastly, I've already tried the repair, it doesn't work. I tried it before I had sent my last message. I also got full log files for when that is needed.

Hey @killerboy3699. We've gone through quite a few options for you. Can you please send us a PM for further assistance. You can do that by clicking the link here. We're looking forward to your message!

Sorry you're having problems with Link mate.  I've never had any issues using my official link cable connected to my z790mb usb3.2 type-c port with any of my Quest headsets (Q1/2/3/Pro).  I never had any problems with an older PC build (i99900k/gtx1080ti) using a Kuject powered link cable as well with my Q1/2.

While it's impossible for me to say for sure, it looks to me like having extra usb3 devices (your 3x dongles) may be causing you to run out of usb bandwidth.  I used to have a similar problem way back with my Rift cv1 and I found I needed to add a separate StarTech pcie usb3 card that included separate usb channels I bought from Amazon (PEXUSB3S44V).  You may want to consider trying one of these, or at least disconnect those 3x dongled and any other unnecessary usb devices when using Link.  Other than that, plus disabling any usb power savings, I don't know what else to suggest.

The fact that Link continues to work so well for me, I don't think that this is a Meta software issue.  Sorry I can't be of more help mate and I hope you eventually manage to get Link working ok.  You still may want to consider trying wireless with an inexpensive wifi6 router or D-Link Air Bridge using Air Link or Virtual Desktop.  Maybe a little more complicated to setup but the freedom of wireless PCVR is pretty nice imho.

Anyway, good luck mate and cheers.

it's not my dongels. I know it's not them because I only use them when in side of vrchat for full body tacking. half the time it's only my mouse and keyboard, my external ssd for my games and my headphones. another thing to mention is that it disconnects and reconnects while even idle (just plugged in). if this was a bandwidth issue it would of been sorted out ages ago. also, even when the headset is off it will disconnect and reconnect rapidly some times and thats without touching it either on both states.

the only other solution for this that I've seen people do is straight up buying a new pc which is rediculus.
