error reaching Oculus runtime service - either running it or reinstalling it

Hi there

I got the rift yesterday, installed it on my Win 10 machine and it all went fine. It ran games and apps, I downloaded elite and it worked like a dream.

Today I tried to fire it up and got this error message saying it cant reach the runtime service.

I tried stopping and starting the service as found on the web - No luck

Turned off firewall - no luck

Let it sit there for 10mins - no luck

I ran the repair - No luck

So I have uninstalled it thinking I would redownload the software and reinstall - No friggin luck

It goes through unpacking it all and after the i agree messages, it gives the same stupid error message !!!!! I have reinstalled 5 times doing so many diffrent options, including being offline. no change at all

I have not even had it for 24hrs and I want to chuck it out already.

Please can someone offer me some help with this before I go crazy

thanks

Have you tried manually running the runtime service? Browse to your oculus folder and run
\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\OVRServer_x64.exe

Thats odd. When this happens I just stop and restart the Oculus run time service. How are you doing this? I search for 'services', then press 'o' twice which takes me to oculus run time and stop the service. Then I start it again. I would imagine starting the PC would do it too. So perhaps ur issue is something else.

From experience oculus is very iffy with USB. Have you tried restarting PC with both the HMD and sensor unplugged then plugged them in after boot.  Also have you tried different USB ports, even worth trying USB 2 just for testing.

well I found out what was causing it but i am confused how it did it.

Comodo firewall was the culprit

For some reason, even when the firewall was shut down, it would still block that program. I just happened to be looking in it when i found it blocked it. Couldnt figure out how to check the rules so I uninstalled, rebooted and wham bang the oculus software works.

I have no friggin idea how it would stop the program after it was closed but i am glad i found it as I was on the verge of doing a reinstall of windows tonight.

I want to say sorry for this crap but it is a good lesson to all that Comodo is not good, and a hearty thanks to Protocol7 & Baz_uK for offering your help, it was appreciated heaps.
