The DK1 isn't supported anymore. It's literally 3 years old at this point

Nobbs66 is right, but you can still get some use out of it if you use an older runtime. Uninstall 1.3 and install 0.8. That will allow you to use some of the games and demos that haven't been updated to 1.3 and some steamVR stuff.

Yeah I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you basically bought a brick off someone.

You'll be able to make it work , but it will take a lot of work and frustration (as you've witnessed already) to get to that point.

If it were me, I'd try reselling it and putting the money towards getting a CV1, as that should have support for the next 5 or so years at the very minimum. Or, if you want to keep it, that's fine too. Just know that its probably more trouble than it's worth at this point.

I just hope you didn't pay through the nose for it, because if so, you definitely got screwed by someone.

Ah I see. Well I suppose you could get it working just to see what the sense of presence is like, but (and I don't know 100% because I have neither the DK1 nor the CV1...yet) I would assume it wouldn't be that accurate of a comparison anyway because the HMD's are so far apart in terms of specs. It would be like comparing a flip phone to a smart phone. Too much night and day.

But I get what you were trying to do now.

the problem is that the CV1 and the DK1 aren't really comparable outside of them being HMDs produced by Oculus.

It's like comparing a Toyota Camry to a Ferrari 458 Italia.

Getting the DK1 and getting it up and running was what convinced me to invest in a CV1. Sure it's blurry and a pain to get working, but I played Project Cars and Elite Dangerous using 0.8 and the DK1. Between that and some of the cool demos around, it made the case for VR being worth the bigger investment. Plus, this is still early days for VR, if you are not the type that enjoys messing with stuff to get it to work, even the CV1 might be a bit much. 🙂
