@PastorMary66  rechargeable batteries can be slightly different sizes to non rechargeables. So they are not making a good contact. The positive terminal in the controller may be stuck in slightly. This shows you how to fix it.

in addition to what @oculusness  said..... maybe just try a different brand of rechargeable batteries.

My Quest 2  controllers are working great with rechargeable ones.

@PastorMary66  there's also the tin foil ball trick to get controllers working.
