Hi all
I've been using my Oculus Rift happily for some years now but at some point recently it seems that the "homes" that I had built and all the object that I had collected have just vanished.
I now have a the "grey field" when I log in to my headset, All the games etc., seem to work okay but I do miss the homes I had built.
Is it true that they have all gone for good ?
Thanks
David

I would not be worried if I could not get any new items for my home - I enjoyed it as it was
Please think about reinstating it - you must have backups 🙂

I am very unhappy with the loss of Oculus Home. I liked my Home and spent a great deal of time setting it up exactly to my preferences. It seems to be a pointless and exasperating forced change, and I don't believe Meta will be able to justify the nuisance it presents to those users who will miss the Home. This is VR we're using, and Meta has just decided to lose a rich, satisfying, and immersive aspect of the user experience - the whole point of VR - in favour of a lacklustre menu that could be just as well represented by a flat screen. The Oculus Home environment was one of the Rift's unique selling points, and its removal is very frustrating and alienating to those of us who viewed it as part of their account and self-presentation. Why don't you just change all our usernames and virtual avatars while you're at it, while we're all losing control of our preferences anyway?

Steam VR is still a viable option. You can access it with your Oculus PCVR head set or Quest 2 with Air Link or cable. Steam VR even has an app where you can create your own Home and share it. I'm just mentioning this because it seems Meta no longer has any interest in giving it's customers PCVR Homes, and I am sure they won't mind if we go elsewhere.

Frankly, this sucks. I spent a good deal of time customizing my home. It felt like a real place to me. Now it's just been taken from me. How in the world do you think I would *EVER* buy another meta product when THIS is the way you treat your customers? Whoever is in charge of such a stupid decision needs to realize you have lost not only a customer but a potential developer.

Don't even try to fake empathy when you can't do it well.

Can you weasels stop saying "we understand some experiences come to an end"? I've literally never had a company come and remove software from my computer behind my back before. This is an unprecedented violation of trust with your users. Meta screwed up big time. Nobody is saying they had to update or improve it, or even sustain the social aspects -- just leave it in place so users can enjoy what they paid for and worked on.
The only reason for Meta to have done this was complete and total disdain for your customers. Since in this case it was a small number of users, they'll get away with it without serious repercussions -- but it indicates their decision making process is garbage and they intend to treat their users like garbage. Based on the stupidity of this decision, Meta is sure to mess up far bigger things in the future. No wonder New Horizons is such a failure: Meta has zero understanding of what is enjoyable in VR, what is valuable to their customers, or indeed that their customers are valuable at all. I will never spend money on a Meta product again.
Shame on everyone involved in this.

When you say “it felt like a real place” I can totally relate to that and may be they should too and see it as a real win on their VR portfolio and consider bringing it back.
i know Steam has its own home version but it lacks that first taste of VR ownership or wow factor - it simply feels like a replacement to something we lost…. I’ll go as far as comparing it to the replacement puppy you get after…
yes it’s a puppy but it’s not your puppy.
Lets hope they see how much this meant and may be let us use up our own storage space and still save their server space… IDK
At this point I’m thinking I still want a bit more time with my Rift S - can it handle a massive update? Take something away give us a little cool thing back
we would appreciate it 😉

I just tried Horizons for the first time and I have to say with all due respect - that simple little home I had way back in the CV1 days and the hours I spent creating models, surfing others homes, opening gifts, and simply having random users pop in for lightsaber duels were some of my most fondest memories withing VR.
Heading into Horizons I soon realized that HOME was far superior not only in a creative and personal sense, but there were USERS. I logged in to find this heavily invested META open world was infested (and I mean, infested) with nothing but children (WHO I thought were NOT permitted) and empty locations.
What a huge loss for this, I am deeply saddened that for a BILLION dollar monolith company could not even leave up the small servers that hundreds of creators and THOUSANDS of items and ideas with that same amount of TIME invested were just blinked out of existence.

Wow. This really sucks. Always wanted you all to bring the home experience to the stand alone headsets, but looks like you just abandoned PC users. The only reason I stuck with Oculus/Meta headsets was for compatibility to use Home, but if that is gone now, guess I no longer need to stay devoted to it. Will now probably wait for next steam vr headset and start customizing my Steam VR home. Very sad day, loved hanging out in our homes with friends, and decorating. 😞

I don't really care about losing home. What I do care about is that this isn't the first time Meta/Facebook have discontinued something that I was using. In fact it's at least the third. To be fair, you'd already lost me anyway (Between the loss of focus on PCVR and just being plain creepy as a company) but this definitely cements that I won't be making any kind of investment in your technologies going forward.
