oculus rift home

Hi all

I've been using my Oculus Rift happily for some years now but at some point recently it seems that the "homes" that I had built and all the object that I had collected have just vanished.

I now have a the "grey field" when I log in to my headset, All the games etc., seem to work okay but I do miss the homes I had built.

Is it true that they have all gone for good ?

Thanks

David

This is very discouraging and based on this decision would not recommend that my friend purchase a Meta product.  I understand not providing future support or updates for older Headsets, but to take away existing functionality and Apps is a very poor business model. Shame

Hey @Norwal! We did stop supporting the older Oculus Home experience within the Rift software. We know this software did have some great customization features that users loved playing around with. We know it's a bummer, it seems like a lot of people will really miss this feature. If you have any ideas on how to improve the PC VR experience feel free to share here!

Your response clearly indicates that you either don't actually understand the issue, or just don't care and are paying lip service to the customers who help Meta to succeed in the VR market. An improvement would be anything other than a stark white endless grid pattern. My family also owns a Quest 2 and I suspect that at some point you will suck the pleasure out of its experience too. All in an attempt to force us to upgrade to the Pro,  Quest 3 or what ever is next.

Did you alert users when this happened?  I do not recall this information.  I too logged in with my Quest Pro using the Rift software to find all my work had been completely deleted.  It's disappointing because I paid for some of the 3D objects I had painstakingly built or purchased and placed with care in my various homes.  I decorated my main home with personal artwork on the walls.  I visited other users' homes to see equal time and effort had been put into their displays.  Sad to just delete it all.

And their solution is "we're sad too".

Why not just release the old Home experience as a standalone app downloadable from the store for free? The lack of multiplayer would mean that there's literally no cost to Meta to run the app. Then we can still have our customized homes. Unless you already deleted all of them?

This is why Games as a Service is so stupid.

If you feel it too, Then bring it back cause what the DUCK!!!!!!!, Those of us that paid for our equipment, And spent many many hours crafting and creating our homes to our choosing, Just for you to say "Haha sorry yeah thats gone, We liked it too but HOPEFULLYYYYY we bring it back" Is literally a slap to the face. Bring it back, Or else the next guys gonna make something much better

Forget it, I'm selling my headset anyways, I'm done with you guys.

This really is upsetting to learn that this feature is gone.  Devastated as it took me YEARS to collect some of the items in my houses and just like that POOF.  Meta, really...couldn't just let the loyal Oculus fans and beta personal keep their home environment, I've had three rifts, countless accessories and spent thousands of dollars and the best part of the night in VR was relaxing at home with friends across the world.  In a world were everyone is being divided, I guess you could not let us have a sweet moment to connect with friends in a lovely custom environment.

Really poor form Meta...no wonder I stay away from the Facebook toxic environment already.  Thanks for taking away a simple inexpensive pleasure and helping to divide the world further!

I'll be heading over to Sony VR2 now and forget that Oculus and Meta exist!

but I hope it doesn't completely turn you away from us!

This is such a strange thing to say. Would you continue to trust and buy from a company who has zero disdain for snapping years of work and creativity out of existence whenever it feels like?

I for one didn't even know Homes relied on your servers – why wasn't this simply offline usable to begin with?

The question is what guarantee do I have that you won't take away the next cool thing I buy from you after an arbitrary amount of time? Exactly. And that's why you've lost me for good. This is the reason I'm still waiting for a Valve Deckard. Yes, I've wanted a standalone VR headset for a long time – but as long as the only viable headsets are from Facebook, then I simply won't bother. Because I don't trust you, and probably never will again.

Welcome to the real world.
