passthrough focus not working properly?

Hi, new to this so i'm not sure what to exspect. However i wanted to see if there is a way to make the passthrough better, or if i have a bad headset?   First off, yes i have read about having proper lighting. I have done that.

here is what i notice.  with proper lighting, if i move my head around the background is quite grainy. But if i don't move it  gets better a little. but again it then gets grainy when i move.

i have also noticed that things about 3-4 feet in front of my will start to focus when i'm still and look good. however the things in the distance always stay grainy.   its like the focus is not working right.

example:  when i turn my head everything in passthrough is grainy, but close things start to focus while further things never do.  I can actually see the close up things go into focus but it take a second or two.

i'm not sure when someone just going to pause and hold there head still so things can clear up...

Are there any setting i can change on the headset or PC app to help this?

do i have a bad unit?

hi @Randallyz450f

The Quest 3 recently had a passthrough update (v64). Since this update Meta is using a different algorithm to help reduce noise in mixed reality. Unfortunately the knock on effect is that as you move your head you get more 'motion blur' as the quest doesn't have the power to correct the image whilst moving.

Cameras generally are cameras, I would doubt there is any passthrough variability and as you say it is very much lighting dependent.

In terms of focus. The lenses themselves have a fixed focal range, moving things further away or closer will produced a blurred image as the lenses don't have a way of varying their focal length. Meta has looked at ways to fix this by using mechanical Varifocal lenses (but very expensive and very heavy)

My passthrough is very similar to yours, looks quite grainy but a huge improvement over the 2. I can just about read my phone at a longer distance than I normally would do.

Hope this helps
