quest 2 not appearing in windows file explorer

I've tried to get the quest 2 to show up in my file explorer to add a mod to blade and sorcery nomad. No usb notification pops up when I plug in my cable and only the quest link popup appears. I also tried with the included cable but it still didnt work. I followed the troubleshooting from the transferring files between quest devices and my quest 2 isn't in the portable devices tab. I also tried disabling and re-enabling the MTP notification setting and it still didn't work. Also when I unplug my headset the oculus device tab dissapears from device manager.Screenshot 2024-07-23 213535.png

This was broken several versions ago and still has not been fixed on my headset by any of the updates. There are many other users who have this problem.

1. The MTP connect popup was moved into notification so you have to go into notifications to allow the connection.

2. If it is broken no notification or popup will appear. Toggling MTP notification, confirming developer mode is enabled, power devices on and off, factory resets, reinstalling the phone and PC apps have not fixed the problem for me and many others.

There are workarounds:

Since it appears you have ADB installed you probably have Sidequest installed as well. If not install it.

Workarounds:

1. From Tools in Sidequest in the experiment section you can enable MTP when you headset is connect to USB.

2. From a command prompt you can issue the command:
[path to ADB executable\]adb shell svc usb setFunctions mtp
(you can add the path to the PATH environmental variable in Windows system settings so you don't have to type it in). I put the command in a CMD file on my desktop so I just need to double click on the CMD file to run the command.

3. Use ADB push commands to transfer files to the headset.

4. Sideload the APK file for "CX File Explorer" (download from APKPure or similar sites). CX has functions to transfer files via WiFi from SMB, DLNA or web browser connections. It's free and nag free. There are similar apps for Android.

We know how important it is to be able to manage your files on the Quest 2. Let's work together to get to the bottom of this! You mentioned that you following the troubleshooting from the How do I transfer files between Meta Quest devices? page already. Can you clarify at which point in the steps you were able to get to? After you connected your headset and computer, did you see a notification to press Allow to confirm that you wish to allow your computer to access the files on the headset?

Additionally, please make sure that your headset and Windows are fully up to day, and all drivers are updated as well.

Lastly, let's power cycle both devices - your headset and your computer.

We look forward to hearing back from you!

I've just been using sidequest to upload the files instead.

Hey there, @Datasianboi55! We're glad to hear that sidequest is working for you! Please let us know if there is anything else we can look into for you!
