"Can't reach Oculus service" on Windows 11 Pro w/ Nvidia 510.10 drivers

highlytechnical
Explorer

Tried repair, tried to clear system cache and temp files, tried uninstall/reinstall, tried to use the 2018 patch, nothing seems to be working.

EDIT: After reading through the logs in C:\Users\(my username)\AppData\Local\Oculus it looks like the following error is in the log:

[Debug] [2021-10-17 12:22:05 PM]

[Warning] [2021-10-17 12:22:05 PM] Exception starting service 'OVRService'. : The specified service does not exist as an installed service

However I can see that the "runtime" service is running in local processes, but attempting to start the "library" service throws an error code 18...

EDIT 2: While waiting for a PM back from the Oculus team, I did some more debug checking (rolled back Nvidia drivers from 510.10 to 496.13, checked the registry paths, tried to set the OVRLibraryService.exe to start automatically and as "local system" which didn't work...so back to a fresh Oculus install) and found this in the logs. Which of course still seem to show that the Runtime service is able to run properly, but the Library service is still having an issue running under the default "NT Service\OVRLibraryService" user settings.

Its stupid, I can't even use it, they state that support is coming yet they released an update on the 1st of November with out support for Win11

I had a response form Oculus/Meta Support on Friday. Their Engineers are working on a fix.  It is a little strange to be taking so long, but then as has been mentioned before and in other forums bug fixes are not quick with Oculus/Meta.

That's fair, its just frustrating since I had bought a used Rift S and for me I couldn't even install the Oculus app to get the drivers, I'm a little impatient.

It is very frustrating. If they want the 'Metaverse' to work they are going to need to improve their communication and respond with rectifications better. If this was a cyber security issue it would not be good. I am very frustrated considering how long W11 has been released in beta and dev flavours.

I upgraded to Windows 11 last month and got could not open the software. It got stuck at checking Oculus app status as well.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times and I tried the patch and the closest I got was rolling back the date. It worked once and when I set the date back to the correct one it broke again and then even rolling the date back didn't work. I looked at some of my error logs and now the date was showing a future date of 12/20/21. So then I tried something that FINALLY fixed my problem. I uninstalled the program and then searched for and removed any oculus folder that I found remaining on my computer as well as any registry entry. I then went back and ran setup. It froze at 4.85 Gb and I needed to use Task Manager to end task and restart setup and the second time it completed. I had to redownload my programs but thankfully everything is working again.  There were folders under C:\Users\username\AppData\Local and LocalLow and Roaming. There was also a folder in C:\ProgramData. In the registry I deleted HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Oculus and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Oculus VR, LLC. I have no idea which file was causing the problem and Support may be able to narrow that down but this is what worked for me.

Do you have a log?

Sponge bob square pants meme.... 2 MONTHS LATER......
